Live Stoner Chat Humidity Control on a Budget - Will Exhaust Fan Help

Hey guys,

I've grown for the past year without humidity levels raising past 65%, however for some reason my tent is suffering heavily from high humidity recently. Some days it's sitting at between 70% and 80%.

I only grow for home use and am on a bit of a budget, dehumidifiers cost half of my total tent setup and the cheap humidity control options have not worked.

I know that an exhaust fan is an important thing to have, I currently have no exhaust in the tent other than from a 4" regular air fan blowing out one of the ducts (probably 5cfm).

Could I expect a proper 6" inline fan with 350cfm to resolve the humidity issues, or would I be better off saving that money towards a dehumidifier?

Not sure what they are called internationally, but they're those packages made for dehumidification of closets etc. Using a similar method as the rice method, using small balls inside a plastic tub.

I use them myself, depends on how many you use and what size they are, as well as the type as the ones with replaceable bags of silica work better than ones where beads are just in a tub, as the water collects in a tub under the bags which you can then throw away whilst the crystals don't get waterlogged. Let's just say "more than one" of the biggest size available may be needed initially, at least as a stopgap until you get better extraction.

We've got 4 of the 250ml tubs in the tent at the moment, but honestly the humidity has been higher since we added them (coincidence I'm sure).

It may also be worth mentioning that the room in which the grow tent is in, has a humidity of 65%, which explains why the tent is also so high if its drawing in the air from the room. I suspect an exhaust fan won't do much if the air inflowing into the tent is still too high.

Ink bird pre wired digital humidity controller. It comes with two outlets on it. In my 4x4 I have a 6" 240cfm ipower inline fan hooked to one outlet and a humidifier hooked to the second outlet. During veg I set the parameters to 80% max RH and minimum 70%. When my humidity would go above 80, the exhaust fan would come on, below 70, humidifier comes on. Now that I'm in flower and I have to scrub the smell I stay at 55% with the exhaust fan running 24/7.

It's the cheapest humidity control I've found at 36 USD and the exhaust fan at 20 USD both on Amazon. Totally changed the way I grow and is giving me excellent results in my current grow.

Are your lights led, hid? Size of the tent? I think a dehumidifier for my situation is a necessity but they are expensive and I've gotten by with the fan and controller. You could always try it but if it doesn't work out for you then return the items

How big is the space that requires de-humidification? Is the area sealed? Has the relative humidity outside changed for Fall?

If you have a closet, you can use rice bags or go on amazon and get 6 or 8 gel packages. You bake the rice bags every few days on super low heat to dry them out (or leave in sun).

here: a few options. Closet size dehumidifier, either standard with small tank, or the type you plug in to dry. You can also get damprid buckets.

Exhaust will only really help with RH if your surrounding area is dryer than the closet/tent.
