I'm new to this but every time I try, my seedlings look like this..:

There's lots of roots and pH is *stable* and pen is calibrated and temperature is correct.

Does this look like some obvious deficiency? Or obvious nute burn? I'm using tap water which comes out at EC 0.3. After adding bennies and nutes it's up to EC 0.5.. using GH flora trio at a quarter of their recommended strength.

I found a picture of someone else's set up and it looks exactly like what happens to my seedlings... especially the weird way the leaves curl on the side. Does anyone recognise the issue? Especially plants 1, 6, 8, 10, 11... they all look exactly the same as when I start my seeds...

Hey bud what age are the plants when this starts to happen?
You using any other additives calmag or root stimulant.
Also what is your ph stable at.

Hey... well this one germinated on the 14th of Jan (2 weeks today)
No other additives, just EWC tea (tried it with sterile also).
This started 4 or 5 days ago. pH is at 5.6-6.0... drifts 0.1 over a day.
Just noticed in my notes... about 10 days ago the water drifted to 7.4 over night... but that was before the root had even reached the water under the netpot.
Could this be the result of pH lockout from a swing 10 days previously?

I would make a new res and up the ec a little more. How often do you make a res change?
Got plenty of air pumping into the res too?

Also around that age autos will start to get hungry for calcium and magnesium. Do you have a suppliment on hand. I use the same nutes as you and the micro just doesnt cut it on its own

Hey man yeah plenty of bubbles, 5 gallons of water, haven't changed the water yet... the tap root only touched the water a week ago...
I'll do a res change and increase the EC.
But basically you think it looks hungry? Ppm hadn't fallen at all
You think I should get a calmag supplement just in case? I've got hard water (my kettle is FULL of limescale), thought I wouldn't need any.

To be honest it looks like ph fluctuation and a little bit of magnesium deficiency.
I have really hard water too but its possible the nutrients in the tap water arent in a form that plants can absorb

Are you using the GH hardwater micro? Might be a good idea. Also, I would avoid adding any organic teas, brews, potions, etc. They make for a bad day in hydro, 99% of the time. Check for a funky smell in the res.
If you really want to keep it simple, at this stage, you could the Lucas ratio, at 0-5-10, with some calimagic. Even 0-4-8, if you are unsure of what is in your tap water.
Hope this helps.

Thanks!
The pH fluctuations I've been controlling since the 18th of Jan.
Should I be adding CalMag to my water anyway as a precaution you think?

I'm asking for this little one in the other bucket also you see :)

In week 1 i just use plain tap water with .5ml per litre of sm90 and ph the res to 5.8

Week 2 i start at 1/8th strength of ghe and add a calmag supp at 0.3ml per litre- thats with plant magic magne cal+ other brands will be different.

And if you dont already have either sm-90 or hydroguard i would advise you pick one of them up. They keep the res and roots healthy and clean and keep nasty pathogens at bay even in high res temps.
