I just started adding hydroguard in a smaller reservoir I'm doing a ebb n flow solo cup in. It is the cleanest res I have ever seen.
Whenever I get pH spikes it's only one of a few reasons. One of them is bacterial colonies feeding off the organics residues that effectively buffer the pH by reducing carbon chains and releasing ions. Also carelessness while upping PPM and there are reactions in the reservoir. I have chased bacterial pH issues for a week before it stabilized, so it is advisable to change out the rez unless you are over 20 gallons or you have to carry the water long distance or something.
I started adding hydroguard to my big res now too. It will be interesting to see how well that works, I havn't changed out the water for approaching 60 days.
