New Grower Is my plants stretching

Is my plants stretching I'm using a 400 watt hps. They are 3 weeks old. I like to keep the light as close as I can get within about a foot but it still looks like they are stretching. The space in between each set of leafs is close to 2 inches. This is my first auto flower grow and hopefully not my last.

w/ your lite that close i would be surprised...but 2" is alot...not sure what to think, but i do know you should be using a mh bulb for veg..

Its probably a heat issue that's causing the stretch.... With the bulb being that close.... Also hps bulb is fine to use start to Finnish.

Also what are you feeding? Maybe to much N. More info would help alot more.

dont forget about the fact that when plants go into Flower they tend to Stretch. if they r going into flower right now this could be a Good reason as to why the stretch is happening!

I keep heat between 75 and 80 Just measured and light is 15inches away. I'm using standard miracle grow potting soil and fertilizer. I have them in 2 gallon pots. Not all the plants look like there stretching this is my first indoor grow. I know that with autos I can't afford to have them stretch.

I hope their not going into flowering they are about 3 weeks old the one I'm worried about is about 10 inches tall with the second at 8" narco Kush and northern lights x big bud

yes you can use a hps from start to finish...but it certainly not optimal. all plants benefit from the blue spectrum of the spring time sun, its is only natural...just as the spectrum changes in july to a red/yellow spectrum for flower/fruit. this is what we are trying to mimic in our grow rooms. you should change your bulb from mh to hps only after vertical growth stops, this is a sign that veg cycle is over and the plant is in full bloom.
