my local water department websit states that it is a RO facility with 3.5-4 mg/l chlorine and .4mg/l of fluoride with a hardess of 60-82 mg/l
will this be ok for my plants

I dont use tap water because i have a well but the numbers seem about the same as most areas water ( most standards for "drinking water" are the same). What most people do with tap water is get what you need out and then let it sit out for 24hrs. Some people also use a air pump and stone to help "push" the chlorine out.

Hey bro
Chlorine is poison for the roots, let the water sit for 24 hours then the chlorine is in the atmosphere and out of the water.

Chlorine is poison isn't quite true. it is in fact a micro nutrient needed by the plant. the problem with too much chlorine is it can break down into sodium it is also quite alkaline. just bubble it out the night before. oh and I have flushed with chlorine from a pool to kill root rot. worked like a charm. well I suppose pure chlorine gas would be bad or swimming in pure chlorine. look on the brightside with a little chlorine in your water there will be less cooties! hydro should be as sterile as possible!

Hi there mate ,whats the overall ppms of that water? ,It is true that plants do use some Chlorine but there is more than enough in any good base nutrients. Its a good thing they use Chlorine in your town water and not Chloramine which is different because Chlorimine cant be evaporated.
All in all a cheap R/o unit will do the job you will need to know the ppm's before you can decide whether to use it it dose sound soft though. My advice it to go Ro.
But if not remember to leave the water stand (preferably bubbling) for over 24hours. But test with a Ec meter first to be positive its soft water. and remember to add calmag to super soft water.
