I was wondering if the ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential) value is of any use in a hydro grow?

Any thoughts?

Just had a quick skim through the science bit and came to the quick conclusion that the answer is no for home growers and maybe a maybe on a bigger scale :)

Reasoning as follows but I'll spend longer investigating it;

We should only be using low ORP water in our grows, mainly tapwater but RO/distilled too. We actually add contaminants in the form of biological grow nutes so the last thing we would ever expect to find in our reservoirs is a high ORP reading as we would never add anything to them that would raise the ORP high enough to kill our nutes. I suppose those that don't use chlorinated tap water would get a lower reading than tap water users but still not much need to know that.

ORP is a way to read if water has the ability to clean itself of contaminants so I'd say it's not much use to canna growers who already know what they are adding and all the relevant factors like ppm or PH.

Well said. There is some literature on the subject, try google "ORP cannabis".

There is a subtle relationship between pH and ORP. On aquaculture ORP is an important parameter in water management, and hydro culture is also all about water management. I am not saying plants and fishies are the same, it was just a thought that maybe in connection with the use of beanies and when sterilizing a system.

A rising ORP will indicate a falling level of organic matter in the water, falling ORP the opposite.
