Hey, I am wondering if there is an easy way to design grow space to figure out the most optimal way of placing what I need inside and where to take air from etc? If not, how do you plan your grow space?

hmm kinda if you have a real big space.but in a built up/confined/limited space we work with what we have, and make the rest up as we go along.
tell us what you have to work with, outside temp/humidity,pc case/cupboard/tent/room,kit you have, kit you thinking of etc.
:pighug:

Will this be for a tent or hard space such as a home closet etc? Also what kind of "budget" do you plan on?

AP foil lined foam insulation can make a dandy little nook out of anywhere.....real nice in confined spots, cause you can fit it custom to squeeze every inch out of it. Tents are sick, but if you have limited area, you will probably have wasted space with a tent as you have to go by what's available. The AP foil foam is easy to work with, reflects light very well, doesn't require more than a straight edge and utility blade to cut, and is also sealable to a point. $12-20 for a 4x8 sheet depending on thickness and where you score it from. Also KAHBS are the BEST for tight space growing. Things to think about...cheers

I see, I have a 20x25x70 inch (depth, width, height) space. Its a closet, all inside with medium inside temprature. I'm thinking of using a 6" inline fan for exhaust into a bedroom and air intake from another room. Excluding the 6" inline fan and its filter, budget is around $500, I think should be enough for good setup while the 6" inline fan with filter keeps good stealth smell wise.

Thanks, I will look into those. I was planning for a tent at first but I think I will skip that since I can't find good fitting tents for my space.

I am almost done converting my workbench bottom to a 24" x 52" AP foiled grow box with a squirrel cage exhaust and a 6" fresh air inline fan intake with 7 Citizen 1818s running at about 365 watts for the whole shebang off a pair of Mean Well 240/1050 drivers. It's getting pretty sweet and should be a steady supply of the best dope around. Run about 5 girls in there and let em run sideways with some LST/SCROG and hopefully will be able to pull at least 12oz from it every round. And that's with a VERY short 39" height. If you are using a closet, just punch some holes for proper ventilation, line it with mylar and get that thing spitting out chunky biscuits and modify/improve/dial it in as you go. The faster you can get it running the sooner it will be in the green.... literally!!

If you plan to exhaust into the bedroom, you might want to think about placing the inline fan/filter in that bedroom (crack window). I've had my fan/filter outside my tent for that past several years and it's been just fine. I also have an air purifier in exhaust room. I use it mostly when harvesting, but if the air gets a little funky/thick smelling in general, I just run the air filter and that takes care of it.

Cob lights are the proverbial bomb. You should look closely at them. I love mine. Low electrical draw, no noise, low heat throw, small and easy to move, very efficient. Check out www.cobshop.net. I bought the ready to hang 3500K. Good for both veg and flower. Hard to beat. You will also want a 6 inch clip on fan to blow over the top area of the plants.

Have you decided on medium, pots and the such?

My advice is, now you have figured out the size of your grow area do a search for grows of similar size and start reading. Then you can start narrowing things down such as media, lighting, ventilation, feeding and plant numbers etc.
It will provide answers to questions you have not thought of yet.
I would not go with a 6 inch fan for the space you have it is to much, you would want a fan that moves around 40 cfpm.

Planning a space takes in many factors, but often its necessity. One makes it work anywhere because that's all there is. As long as air is carbon-scrubbed, should be good. Some things to consider is how does the space handle humidity? Is it prone to being damp, cold, or home to smaller life forms? How would you supply fresh clean O2?
Like our friends above said, researching grows that are similar in size to your space will help. Innovation in every nook here.

Only answer to this threat for me is whatever feels right.

You can do the maths and lumens etc - but location is key.

I had a big ass tent inside a terrace house (UK) with no extraction and somehow managed to pull 2 grows off without my front doors been kicked off. Grew one monster aswell.

Didn't feel comfortable at all.

Sold that and now use a 80cm x 80cm x160cm tent and I hardly notice it's in the house.

Put it this way, with the hps and no extraction/exhaust it was like the firey pits of hell everytime I walked up to bed, in the next room.

Now I find myself checking that everything is switched on its that quiet and unnoticeable.

A good size tent to start off with is a 1.2x1.2x2 m tent
