As I am using LED lights, I have been reading up on 'What is the best wattage per square foot' for LED's. I know that the par value is important but in respect to wattage, is there a limit? For LED coverage I have read that 30-40 watts per square footage is optimal. I have also seen it posted in a couple of different places that you DO NOT want to go over 50 watts per square feet. ?!? Why? Or is this just BS? I've always heard that the more light the better......

The answer is no! There is such thing as too close to your plants. And also the wrong spectrum but I don't think u can ever have too much.
That's what I have always thought. I just found it interesting to see NO MORE than 50 watts per S.F. I may have to do some seeking and see if I can find those articles again.

I think if you keep the distance just right away from the plants and the schedule timed just right, I don't think the intensity can be too much. Unless you have UV light, then that's a whole new ball game. If u have UVB in your spectrum, then yes too much is possible to achieve. Just my 2 cents

Of course there is too much light for plants, same as too close to plants when light intensity causes damage to a plant's metabolic processes.

I think I know what he means and you are all kind of right. By adding more light you would have to raise you light so more light more height. Well there will come a time your height runs out and if you added more you would damage your plants. So in that situation you would have to much light.

just throwing this out there, but as far as no more than 50/sq ft, maybe anything more doesn't help as far as running cost of the light? I don't have any idea what I'm talking about, just thinking out loud.........and I'm hi as a kite LOL

Most people don't have to worry about this problem cause there bank account can't afford "too much light" hahaha
Can't think of a led grow I've had that was less than 50 watts per sf!
Every notice..controversial issues gets more hits ... if i wrote a PH post, and basically gave the same info, as 12 others ..it wouldn't get the attention..now if i stated, its two difrent PH levels. ... one for grow P 6.2 then Bloom 6.8 etc etc..
