New Grower Jimmy's Newbie Grow

Day 20

Here are the AKR twins on day 20. The Candy Kush is on day 2 above soil. Had a little jiggle around in the cab, and added one more 30w cfl, lined up the fan a little better with the height of the plants. Temps 80. Humidity 47%. Due 2nd grow nute feed prob tomorrow.

:peace::grin:

AKR Day 26

Here is the AKR on day 26. Also the CK on day 7.

Lights: 5 x 30w Cfl

Temp: 85/6 f

Nutes: Due a feed today of 3 litres still bottled water (tap water very hard in my area), with 2ml Biobizz Grow per litre.

My Ph's have been pretty unstable from day 1, but I now have a soil meter. It was cheap and currently reads around 7.5ish (see pic). Too high!

When I last watered her 5 days ago I made the soil ph around 5.3 using the runoff formula Blue gave me. Too low!

NOW,

How do I go about fine-tuning the soil ph? I have ph up/down, but to test the runoff I have to feed her quite a bit of water, right? Do I only get one shot per feed at getting it right? I dont want to overwater...

Sorry if this question is a bit of a stupid one  just wanna get this right.

The CK is lookin ok I think, gave her a litre of mineral water on day 3. She is sharing the AKR's lights but has one 30w cfl trained directly onto her.

The third picture is the baby-twin of the akr. I tried to lst to give her more light but I dont think she is going anywhere. She looks healthy and well formed and I think I am just going to leave her and see what nature does...

Thanks AFN!

oops forgot to add the meter picture :)

Look at them! Lookin' all nice n healthy...!

OK so I watered the AKR thus:

3 litres bottled water - ph 6.4

plus 6ml Grow, now ph 6.3

Tested first 50ml of runoff- ph 6.3...

So happy days.... but then I tested the remaining runoff and it was 4.8?!

But the plant looks healthy. My ph pen is calibrated. The cheapo soil meter still reads 7.5ish so I think its no good.

Would the plant be telling me if the soil really was that low? Does bad ph show during a grow, or only affect final yield/quality?

:dunno: I humbly appeal to you good people to help put the good ship Bean back on an even keel!!

Actually, now i think about it, the bucket which collected the remaining runoff probably wasn't as clean as it could've been- the first few ml I tested went straight into a sterile plastic cup.

I'm guessing this accounts for the difference in readings. Apologies for being a doofus. Welcome to my world heh heh

Jimmy, don't drive yourself crazy over the runoff readings. My solution going in would be something like 6.4, and my soil would read the same. My runoff would be reading something high as hell, like 7.9 or 8. Worried the hell outta me at first, but then I got over it and my grow finished decent enough.

Perfectly timed reassurance there Bandit, cheers!

I wasn't too worried (honestly!) She's lookin very healthy, beginning the flowering stage. Bloom nutes on next feed.

When is best to switch to 2700k cfls do you know?

The plants are looking good! Has the vertical growth stopped yet? You don't wanna switch to bloom nutes, if not. I'm not too sure about cfl's, so you might wanna look over at one of the lighting threads. I think I recall seeing a cfl lighting thread
