what is the difference in growing organic and growing in soil what is a good pot size for growing autos once germanited do they go straight into pot or small pot then trensplant have read so much on here the last few days trying to get ready for first grow trying to take it one step at a time

I wll let someone else chime in on the organic, :thumbs:for ya. It is best to start the autos into what will be there final pot if possible. Autoflowers dont do that well with transplanting, there is alot here that doa tier method transplant, which is when you start a seed off in something smaller, like an 18 oz solo cup, and then just cut the bottom of the cup and and place it in the new pot of soil. That way the roots dont get disturbed, Hope this helps out a bit. Also organic and soil are the same, just one uses organic nutes and soil and chemical nutes are used for the other. I believe you might be thinking about, what is the difference between soil and hydro.
Much luck throughout:smokebuds:

The difference basically comes down to how you feed your plants, organic nutrients or chemical. You could start out with a peat based mix like Pro Mix that is mainly sphagnum peat moss and perlite, then add organic amendments like worm castings, composted manure, etc. Or you could take that same Pro Mix, not amend it with anything and use liquid organic nutrients and it would still be considered an organic grow. But the same Pro Mix with chemical nutes wouldn't be.

Three gallon pots are a good size for autos. If memory serves me, you were planning using on a 2' square tent. You could probably fit 3 in there. If you went to smaller pots, say 2 gallon, you could probably fit 4 but your plants would be smaller, so would yield less. Some people like to start their plants in the final pots to avoid transplanting. I prefer to start in a smaller pot, then transplant after they sex. That's partly because I grow a lot of regular seeds, so I'm not committing 3 gallons of soil to a plant that could be a male. I also prefer the smaller pots to start since they will dry out quicker, allowing me to water/feed at more regular intervals.

One technique you might want to consider is called The Tiered Method. Take some large party cuts, preferably 32 oz. or bigger and cut the bottom out of one. Take a second one and poke a few drainage holes in the bottom. Place the one without the bottom inside the one with the drainage holes. Fill it with soil and start your seeds in them. When they are big enough to go into the final pots, simply remove the outer cup and "plant" the one without the bottom about half way deep into your final pot. The roots will grow out the bottom of the cup and fill the pot. Using this method there is little chance of damaging the plants during transplant.

I agree with everything Muddy has said but would add... I grow strictly organic without the use of any manufactured fertilizers. For me, it fits my plan perfectly. But, from what I have witnessed, I would never try to start that way. An organic grower really needs to know why and how organics works... or, trouble can come your way and nobody wants anything but successful grows here.

If a new grower will follow the instructions given by assigned moderators and assistants in the new growers forum, they would gain the confidence that only a truly successful grow brings. After that, having started with a solid foundation, the experience gained makes it easier to experiment more prudently.

I have never seen any of Muddy's students end up with a grow they weren't giddy about, and some have resulted in BOM nominations... imagine that... a BOM nomination after just one grow... but, it only happens when a new grower is coach-able and doesn't allow themselves to be distracted by the clutter when seeking advice. :peace:

thanks so much that explains organic i actually ended up with 2x4x5 tent suppose to arrive tomorrow and a 240 blackstar on the way is one light going to be enough for three plants in that size tent and i could use 3 gal pots and up to 4 plants without crowding i have fem seeds on the way since they dont have to be sexed would it be better to plant them direct or still use tier method and any exhaust fan filter combo that works good and isnt cheap i think i have determined a 4 in is what is needed just dont want to get a crap one you guys have been so helpful thanks again

sorry would have to apologise muddy as i look back in original post and you sent me links for fan and filter brain fart thanks again

The stated coverage area for a BS240 is 2' x 3', I think... you'll be okay with that. You can actually pack a bunch of plants in 3 gal. pots, in that sized tent... but, if you want maximum yield per plant, I would recommend putting in no more than three or four. You will definitely have room for 3 nice plants except, depending on the strain, you may have to control how tall it gets.

Now, I'm gonna scurry back over to the organic forum where I'm assigned. :D Good growing and listen to Muddy or anybody he may point you too. He knows a lot more about this stuff than I do... :worm:

thanks joe so much i will definately listen to muddy 3 plants is all i plan at a time and i am starting with purple kush feminised auto which from what i think i have read is a shorter strain you guys are great and with all the help i have gotton here this is looking to be less daunting of a task . i think i have all the main pieces in route and cant wait to get started
