I've been a longtime fan of organics...it's been an interesting road to say the least.

At first, I couldn't give a shit; pesticides and synthetics were responsible for a boom in food production, so I figured organic was overblown, ineffective, hippie nonsense.

Then, I got into the culinary world and became a convert when I saw that, even if organics had no differences in the lab (for nutrition testing), the flavors were another matter entirely. I've done blind taste tests in my kitchens with organic and regular produce, organic and free range meats vs. standard feeds and lots, and in every case organics just tasted better, period. Maybe it was the methods, or maybe organic farmers just cared more and that resulted in better produce and protein, I thought, but either way the results were there.

So, I became a convert of organic more for health and taste reasons than anything else. I've still worried about yields globally if organics became the only thing, but reading up on organic ferts and pest control gave me hope that, given the research and effort synthetics have recieved, the yields could be matched.

It's little surprise that when I came here this part of the forums intrigued me. I ordered the book, and was determined to grow my plants in the healthiest manner possible. The TLO focus on soil health intrigued me, but spoke to my own beliefs that the best results come from harmony with nature instead of trying to bully her through chemicals to give the desired results. I'm very excited to read up on this. I don't have enough time for my first grow to be a TLO one, as the soils will need a few weeks to cook and I don't think I'll have that time to spare for the first go 'round, but I'm using FD's organic instructions for my first grow and I plan to use TLO for my successive grows, and to incorporate it into the garden I'm starting this year.

Very eager to see what TLO can do for me, both with legal and other kinds of plants.

There are several of us here that practice living organic style gardening. You are correct, aroma and taste are unmatched when done properly. Yields will lack initially but with practice you will begin to see increases very close to or equaling synthetic gardening. In order to gain those grams back it takes soil testing and keeping the meq in your soil at proper levels. Rev teaches the basics which gets you going. Most people quit reading with his book thinking they have it all. Continued reading and understanding of soil principals will get your yields back.

Welcome to the organics section TT! Let me know if I can help you out with anything as you begin to learn.

Yes'sir large farming in organics can and does compete quite nicely with chem agriculture.for fruits trees and cannabis.especially outdoors!! happy to have ya brother!if your a foodie and about tastes youll be hooked the first grow..even if its not done 100% correclty, the taste is unsurpassed ,i got three plants less than a week off the vine and they tatse better than anything..and i mean ANYTHING i could buy locally and would compete with a high end co op too once a few month cure was set in place well.yup yup A4 is the guy who ya wanna talk to about getting started for cheap.or the soil pre packs you can get..thats where i got my start at but its cheaper than a full soil recipe and all the stuffs.welcome bro n ill see ya round the way in the organic mechanic shop lol :Hookah::Sharing One: :styles rasta:

Thanks all. I've been reading up on the threads, but a lot of it is beyond me for the moment. I figure once I've read the Rev's Book, and maybe picked up Teaming With Microbes and Teaming With Nutrients, I'll be in better shape to get serious yields.

I'm trying everything I can to maximize yields in the small space I'll be using, but here's hoping it'll be enough for personal use from the get go. I don't needs pounds, just enough for me to enjoy.

well pretty much no matter the size of auto you grow in a solid mix I get personally , often no less than an ounce per plant.more in some cases but i do grow them small cuz of my set up but thats a very easy yield youll get pretty early id think with a decent mix. ive gotten three ounces on one auto once and over four off of two i grew and im still a beginner man, sooo. thats totally doable for you.

there are many threads A4 has done as well as myself on Soil building as well as recipes n things. but stick with the revs book and my tea thread to start with, and imho youll get a good grow.great actually imo buuut im bias..im bias cuzz youll get thee best grow n youll love the smells to boot lol

Welcome brother :pighug: A4 speaks the truth :check: Knowledge is power and you are in good hands my friend :Sharing One:

Teaming with microbes has shot my understanding of all of these concepts forward by leagues. I consider The Rev's book to be an undergrad education in TLO whereas Teaming with Microbes is more like graduate level information. Best of luck in your endeavors man, I've been growing organic for 6 months now, and while there were some bumps in the road once you get it all dialed in you basically hit cruise control with growing, I went from maybe 8 hours a week worth of work to more like an hour. When you get ready to do your first grow feel free to post the thread link in here.

By the way, I came across this video this morning which is an interview with Jeff Lowenfels(the author of Teaming with Microbes). A lot of good information!!

I'm pretty committed to growing more this year. Spent much of the winter picking up 5 gallon and 1.5 gallon food grade plastic tubs to use as planters, and looking into inexpensive local sources for soil and compost. Space is a bit of a premium for me, but I figure I've got enough room for a modest compost bin and worm farm, and a decent-sized plastic tub for mixing soil and letting it cook. I can get distilled water nearby at a reasonable cost, but if it winds up being too pricey I may have to invest in a RO setup.

Once March or April come around and it's warmed up enough to plant, I'm hoping to have some TLO soil cooked and ready for an entire garden, and will be using TLO soil for my veggies, fruits, and herbs, and replacing the FD blend in my stealth case with TLO soil. Plus, it'll be an easier cover having an entire garden going at the same time. If all goes well, I might be able to keep some plants going through fall and winter so I can make teas and such year-round without attracting notice.

Crazy as this might sound, I'm just as excited to make some fresh sauerkraut with TLO cabbage as I am to grow weed with it! I'll be sure to keep you all posted as time goes on.

Well, consider me on the way to grad school, then. Just nabbed Teaming With Microbes; my mylar has been delayed for over two weeks, so I have lots of time to read up in preparation. If it doesn't get here before my seeds, though, I'll be very annoyed. Plus side: all these delays may mean I can start a TLO grow for my first one ever. Who knows?

Keep in mind that the Rev has nothing to do with autos so any recipes he gives will need to be weakened for autos. I learned this the hard way with my 1st two grows. I made a weaker version of the soil using his master builder mix and now i'm flying on auto-pilot (pun intended). Welcome and good luck, TLO is great! :Sharing One:
