Just a quick one, I grabbed some of my 2 yr old leaf mould from the garden on Sunday, mixed with equal parts Biobizz light mix and a sprinkling of seaweed meal on the top. Used this as a test for some tobacco seeds I'm starting ready for spring..

Just noticed a bunch of the white web fungi growing on the top of them after two days..

Anyone use this in their soil mix? I think I'll try next run I do.

(tried to get pics but not possible on phone cam!)

what color was the mold man?just make sure ya work it in the bin and always add them endos n such to dominate over bad stuff.but a well balanced is better for a tobacco seed imo just make sure you do those two things n youll be fine man!using whats available thats what its about, and cheap LOL!some other kinda smoke,I bet that would be good if you learn to dry it n all that well.if i had the room man Thats a helluva an idea too!!:Sharing One:

It's white, the same web type stuff I see on my canna soil that's been cooking a few weeks, but this was literally two days! I don't smoke tobacco, I'm just growing it for the fun of it. But yeah, I read leaf mould retains moisture well too, which I'm coming to the thinking that with TLO the more moisture retention the better right? I mean, why water if you don't have to, just a tea here and there and let the soil do it's thing. I was going to ask you actually buddy...on your pics, your plants look so sick, but the top layer of soil looks dry, doesn't that kill the 'herd so to speak? It's clearly working for you man, My top layer is dry now and I'm always thinking, how can the poor microbes live in dry soil? Maybe I'm off the mark, just wondering and learning bud. I def don't do the wet/dry cycle thing anymore, just trying to dial it in.

D

Edit: oh yeah I'm not grow the tobacco in my tent, just starting seedlings off in there ready to plant outside in spring.

Well your 100% spot on except one small key element.which really relies on watching your plant and its behavoir as the root STAY WITH the water as it slowly evaporates and still drinking.your soil needs to breath but also by design its supposed to be a heavier soil with LESS brreathing but aeration or soil respiration nonetheless.so your right but not too heavy or it'll rot in no time and stop and stall your growth rather quickly.so with that in mind aerating your soil some with some small perlite or medium or husks, whatever have ya.HELL pumice stone is nice too btw!larger actual busted small stones not stone dusts an stuff(although those are good too LOL).The microbes will move into a stall pattern.some will die yes.thats why it always great imo to really work them fungals additives and use them and that will keep your soil dry and living FOR the plant as it need it.the power of the genetics of the plant is completely back to the plant now and all you do is add water essentially.teas whatever.LOL! am I too stoned to write or does that make sense?LOL!:Sharing One:

That makes total sense man, I get it! Obviously if it were chems or even organic fertz you need to water to apply said nutrients, but being as though we are looking out for the "herd", need to keep them happy!

Thanks matey. I'll get some pics of the baccy seedlings when they show :)

Noo sweat bro glad yer back!!uhh just remeber the final piece the barrier between the roots and the soil.the

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhizosphere

and you do not want to let that get too dry so to learn the delicate ballance of maintaining the non droopy of the leaves and the weight(or the wetness if you will)of the pot.then as a water or feed when needed or whichever and thats the goal.well work for me anyhow.just make sure to use surfactants n the like.cant leave when fully watering those drier larger spots untouched by moisture again, can really cause havock if ya let it.Be good bro!

Thanks my friend. When I water try to water really slowly, these are only 6 litre (1.5 gallon) pots, but I do it really carefully, over an hour or two, try to let the roots guide the water down. I just set some rainwater bubbling with a touch of molasses in there for the beasties. Bubbling water has transformed my garden, not just canna either, my outdoor garden seems to love it too. Just invested in a filter for the hose to get rid of the chlorine in the summer, can't wait for spring, bring it on! Crazy how organic gardening is seen as something that is a "trend", how the heck can nature be a trend? :slaps:

Oh snap welcome back Dazed! :Sharing One:You should stop by the BAMSLAM and check everyone out, we're on day10 or something along there.
