As a highly effective/potent, cheaper, more readily available and nearly as totally non-toxic (to animals) as spinosad contact insecticide consider pyrethrins, either the natural product isolated from chrysanthemum flowers or synthetic analogs. Pyrethrins biodegrade quick enough that there is no problem using them into early bloom (being overly cautious). Many common household, agriculture and animal care/pet insecticide products use a pyrethrin.
