Indoor LED DWC MI5 Grow!! (that's right, TWO exclamation points)

Ok, ok, I haven't updated because a) i've misplaced my camera b) been busy working on my plants c) I got a new vape (the SSV) and it's been keeping me glued to my sofa.

Anyway, I gave my girls a very overdue haircut Wednesday or Thursday, then a further haircut Thursday or Friday. I FINALLY changed the res water today, also picked up some GH Subculture-B (have been using Subculture-M so far) to help keep that brown funk that just started showing up at bay. running about 900 ppm (1.8-1.9 EC) around 5.7 pH. Humidity is back up a bit, but not out of control yet. Thinking about hooking up the A/C unit soon, just to make sure it's ready when I need it.

Despite not being able to find my camera, I used my phone to take some mediocre pics. Here they are:

Some of that brown funk that started showing up (rinsed off the roots with tap water, redrained the res, then put in nutrient water)

The root ball looks pretty nice, though

nice mate, lookin awesome. those roots are somethin else. a know a chick with hair like that, not a pretty girl ;)

nice even canopy of buds mate! loving the root porn :cough:

I didn't even train the plants (until now)! I don't know for sure how it grew like that, but I think it had to do with a lot of light. I shall call it a POG! A PAR Of Green lol (PAR as in photosynthetically active radiation). Whatever caused it or you want to call it, I'm not about to start complaining.

I like it bro, i will be working with only 2.5x2.5 foot shower stall and this makes me happy to see others in that size range. peace :karma:

Alrighty, so the ladies seem to be doing well overall, however there is definitely some root funk building up. I ordered a (comparatively) massive air pump (Hailea V-60 at one of you guys' recommendation) which I'm still waiting for, but in the mean time got some Cannazym and H2O2 and am in the process of "bombing" my reservoir. I plan to go about week or so with every alternate day H2O2 applications, and maybe another 2 applications of Cannazym, at which point I'll empty the res's and try to re-establish my beneficial bacteria in there. I also added a small water pump into each reservoir just to hopefully circulate the water and maybe allow more water to be properly oxygenate.

Actually, just now I read that you're not supposed to use H2O2 and Cannazym together (presumably because it's organic matter and the H2O2 will break it down), so I guess I'm changing my plans to another few days of H2O2 applications, THEN a fresh res and Cannazym plus beneficial bacteria.

Anyway, here are some pics, I didn't check the pH or ppm because...uh...I didn't before and I don't feel like doing it now. I'm sure they're on point, though the ppm should have risen slightly from the Cannazym (0-2-1 or something like that). I'm not worried though, I'll check it after a few more hours of peroxide treatment and in the morning before work.

Oh, and I also turned the A/C on since it's suddenly summer and sticky in my neck of the woods.

Looks like some of them have hit puberty :P

So the root funk battle rages on. The reservoirs were looking gross again, so i drained them, mixed up 5 gallons of H2O2 water, rinsed the roots off/let them soak 20 minutes or so, drained the res again, and then mixed up another fresh batch of H2O2, rinsed, and drained again, then filled up with fresh nute mix with Cannazym and CalMag since they showed some moderately bad deficiency very suddenly. got some ugly leaves because of it. Also used subculture-b.

You can see some of the deficiency damage here. it only really showed up on the top most leaves

alright, so my Hailea V60 finally came today...and it's a 220volt version...and I'm in the US...

TL;DR: I'm not sending it back to China for a replacement, so I ordered a 110v to 220v transformer off of amazon with overnight delivery hehe.

I did also go to radioshack, and got an adapter (not a transformer, just from the Chinese three prong plug to the USA 3 prong plug) to see if it would run on 110v, and it did! And it ran rather nicely, but I don't want to damage it by running it with the wrong power (shouldn't really be a problem at the lower-than-rated US voltage), so I put the other pumps back on. I also got two nice, BIG airstones so that should help immensely once it's up and running. There was suddenly a lot of new root growth, but I definitely need to change the reservoir and re-inncoulate with the beneficial bacteria. once that airpump is running, things will look a lot better in the res. i dunno, i feel like i'm rambling right now, this just happened:

so i'm liable to go rambling about nothing at any point. at some point, I took pictures. here are two or three of them:

oh yeah, the pump. overexposed, no less.

so i changed the water this weekend, and very suddenly over the last day or so, they all developed what looks like a significant calcium deficiency:

I thought this was crazy since I added a bunch of CalMag to the nute broth. Then I decided to check the pH, and wouldn't ya know it, it's up at 6.0! So I just added about 10cc of pH down to each res, bringing it down to 5.7. The only troubling thing is that at 6.0, calcium absorption should be better than at 5.7, so who knows. Whatever the case, the pH was off, and hopefully correcting this will fix the issue.

I did also decide to bomb my plants with about 1400 ppm of nutrients this time, heavily favoring the bloom nutes. They seemed to respond favorably until this sudden odd problem. Otherwise, as you can see, they look pretty happy overall:

well i fed my plants for the last time last weekend (no grow nutes, just GH micro and GH's flowering one, that pink stuff), i'll probably change the water on tuesday to pure water and then in 1.5 weeks or so after that, they should be just ready. i like to let MI5 go a week or two longer than recommended - the high is just a lot more well rounded and enjoyable (first time with MI5 I harvested at 1 plant at 9 weeks, 3 at 10 weeks, 1 at 11 weeks, and 1 at 12 weeks).

My plants got pretty ugly from those few days when the pH was off, but the buds seem to be in tact. i have what looks like 2 of the large, heavily branching phenos and 3 of the "bud on a stick" phenos. I'm not sure 2 of the 3 bud on a stick ones are going to yield much because they were on the very edge of my light's range. i definitely grew too many plants for my space, and for my next grow, i'm going to be doing just 2 at a time in 5 gallon buckets. the bud on a stick flowers look MUCH sexier than the heavily branching phenos, and is purple in some places (i've run my AC down to the low 60s a few times which i think have contributed to that), but there is going to be a lot more bud from the heavily branched ladies. here's a few shitty pictures
