Takes less than a min to DL a light app on most phones. I was hoping to get a thread going where we can share some basic info on our leds in hopes of helping some people (me:grin:) get a better hold on what height our leds should be at during different stages. Yes I know most people have their grows dialed in but who knows maybe im not the only one wondering if my light should be higher or lower. So ill start

Light: Mars Hydro II 700w (300-380w actual) 140x5w full spectrum approx 2 mo old.
App used: "light meter" on google play store
phone: galaxy note 3

2" under center: 38,000 lux 7000k
20" under center: 7700 lux 7000k
30" under center: 3600 lux 7000k (plant tops at 3 weeks)
42" under center: 2300 lux 7000k

Observations: ive moved this light up and down between 42" and 20" to plant tops without much of any difference in stretching on advice from different people. I took the average and hope to improve on my guess. Also know phones and apps arent perfect but it will have to do because it is so easy. I am a bit confused with the color though, 6700-7000k is sunlight yet this is obviously not white. What it could be though is an average from both ends of the spectrum because its "full spectrum" or am I over my head again? :help:

Out of curiosity I tested early afternoon sunlight in new england... 110k lux and 5600k! Kinda makes me want to lower my light!

13w cfl with reflector:
Real close (under 2" away): 25,000-30,000 lux 3250k
6" away: 12,000 lux 3250k
12" away: 3000 lux 3250k

So I know this isnt a lab quality test, but a few observations are somewhat surprising. Seems lux fall of proportionately between led and cfl which surprises me. The lux per watt of the cfl is quite impressive and this isnt a huge shock but that big burning ball in the sky is freaking bright:slaps:. I think where LED shines (pun intended) is by providing more specific spectrum output I bet the PUR output of a LED grow light would blow away most bulbs not specifically designed for growing. Anyone else want to DL an app and play around in light?

I try this out tomorrow, think there is some one else here with a 300W mars light or 180w actually or I hope

I just DL the Lux meter on my Android

4- 300w panels MarsHydros
1- 400w China panel has a amazing veg spectrum
1- 600w MarsHydro Reflector 192x3

At about 12-15" or top of plants im avg.43000-48000 lux
when i went about 4-6" i was at 109000 lux
I was pretty shocked!!
