Excellent review of a 1 watt per led grow light. I have been reading nothing but three and five watt grow panels. but from what I have seen 1 watt leds rock too

From What I have read, the lower the wattage the diodes, the more efficient they are at using the power. So, using that reason a panel with 40 1-watt diodes pulling 20 watts real power should create more par than 8 5-watt diodes pulling 20 watts of power. Because of this, I have been wondering if there are some companies out there using lots of 1 watt diodes. My guess is it cost more to make 5 1 watt diodes than 1 5-watt diode though, so might cost more to purchase, but worth more years down the road, making up for it in your light bill and bud you produce. Any thoughts out there?

Unfortunately thats just not true, or you would not see many three watt LED powered lights. In fact most 1 watt lights have disappeared from the market They all work the same in that they have a sweet spot where they get the most bang vs power draw. Usually its between 65-75% of max rating. I'm willing to bet there is little PAR difference between a 1 watt x40 and a 5watt x 8. Infact, the 5 watt may still have a slight edge in that it is a newer, more advanced design than the one watt diodes.
