cfl are absolute shit so why is this surprising at all?

CFL`s are fine for germination/seedlings/first week. You don`t need a strong light. They are cheap, efficient and have good spectrum.

CFL's always seem to give you airy buds. They don't seem to fatten up at all.
The same can be said about some of the cheap LEDs mind.

I've noticed this also... I have a 50 true watt junky blurple led and 100 true watts of 6500k cfl for veg... Plants always reach for the LED. The love it in veg. Nice squat and bushy plants..

I think proximity is important. I keep the bulbs within inches.
