Hi everybody! Brand spankin new to Autoflower Network but for the short amount of time I've been on here It's helped me out tremendously!
I've been planning and researching for my first grow for a solid two months now, I just now got to money to start, I've decided to go with:
Hydroponics DWC
T5 or CFL (haven't quite decided yet)
4x AutoFem Northern Lights
6'' inline carbon filter fan combo (carbon filter 12'' x 9'')
I'll be growing it in a closet in a half attic. Which is my main problem but I'll get to that later.
Main reason I'm going with Hydro instead of soil for first time grow is because what I've read is in the long run hydro produces higher yield and grows faster plus I'll have the time and patients to control the PH and PPM. My set up is: 5 gallon Sterilite tub, Flora Hydroponics PH Up/Down water solution, 4 Rockwool starter cubes, 4 net pots, Hydroton grow rocks, Large ceramic air stone, single outlet air pump.
What I've learned from T5 vs CFL is their isn't much difference except the light spread, I read both at the same time works best. I haven't seen a whole lot of info on which yields more though. Maybe somebody would know?
My first major question would be in a small space, with 4 plants, would a 12'' x 9" carbon filter and inline fan be optimal? I can't afford the bigger exhaust systems unless somebody knows of one I can buy around $70.
Now to my main concern. Since it will be grown in an attic, it is very hot during the day, especially during the summer. I put a thermometer in there and at ground level with a small 12x12 fan it's around 82-95 during the day, nights aren't so much as a problem. I know that it's important for the water in a hydroponic system to be a steady ~70. Has anybody else been in this situation and found a good solution? I know I can get a free window AC unit but since it'll be in a closet it's kind of counterproductive. I haven't been able to find a cheap portable AC unit so if anybody knows of one please link me! Or somebody has a cheap one to sell I'd be more than happy buy it. I'm also not against switching back to soil, which was my first choice. I just want the most bang for my buck. Thanks for reading! PS I can post links to almost all of everything I'm buying if needed.
