Have you considered building a kiln? My high school pottery teacher built his own kilns for ceramics although that might not be hot enough for glass. You just have to super attentive building it a few mishaps and you got a bomb lol

Building a kiln ends up being about the cost of buying a premade. It might be a little bigger but more likely to have inconsistancies. Warm spots....cold spots...nothin worse than coming pack to a puddle of pipes. Makes great art, solid brick o'pipes...sucks when you're looking to sell some pieces. If you can get a digital thermostat, so much less head ache and you can set them to turn off/ramp down automatically.

Yeah I'm not even going to try to build one heard it was a big headache if you don't know what your doing.

It's digital plenty of space and I can get it an hour away for $700.00. it's just getting the 700 up fund are tight but I'll get it.

Paragons are great kilns. 4.5" tall seems pretty small, your limit as a glassworker will always be your kiln size. You could probably find a larger top load kiln for a bit cheaper although not as nice. I have seen giant softglass kilns the size of a cargo crates where the whole lid was lifted with pulleys it was so heavy.

Hell yeah torch I like that bub with the octopus on it and a opal in the head very nice. I'm working on getting a kiln right now, pretty hard without a job I'm out of oxy ATM too. I wish I knew a loan shark cause the banks are greedy as hell and don't want to let me get any cash.

I would love to get a bigger kiln but top loading is out of the question and anything bigger than the BB XL is well over a grand way out of my price range. I have to have a punty door it may ony be 4-1/2" tall but it is 20" wide so I can stick pieces in there side ways. I know some great lampworkers that use this kiln and make nice size Sherlocks and bubblers in it but I mostly want it for the ease of pipe prodo. I have a couple of shops locally that are dying to get my work in bulk.

Aim's are real nice too I've worked in some pretty small ones before that must have been for ceramic doll heads they were so small. The mid sized ones and the large ones are very nice I say almost equal to the pargons. You can get some top laders that have the punty windows. Also keep an eye out for broken kilns, it's pretty cheap to replace a heating element or thermostat and that's all a lot of them need.
