New Grower light height.

Getting the LEDs too close can stunt the plant as they don't have to work for the light. They stay small and stacked. I think the idea is to keep them about 12"-24" above the tops during vertical growth and aim for about an inch of growth per node. the distance varies depending on manufacturers specifications. I have also had problems with over saturation and bleaching in the past.

I got LED bleaching real bad switching to the 240 Blackstar UV flowering LED at 14 inches above canopy. When this happens growth stalls and the burned leaves never recover. Two out of eight plants nearly died and are just beginning to recover now. The other six yielded half what should have been.

When my current crop goes in for flowering I'm going try just one plant with the blackstar at two feet up and see how it goes before risking them all.

i've got a 240w blackstar as well as cfls, just undecided. i may use a combination, or keep it tidy with just the blackstar.

what's the issue with led's being too close?

I am using 14 cfl's and had them about 5-6 inches above my seedlings and that turned out to be too close, I have them 8 inches above them now and it seems to be just right.

Too close? I keep my cfls an inch or two maximum from plants.

That's what I was thinking gt.

Maybe you weren't getting enough airflow in between the plants and lights fstw.

I have a fan blowing directly between the lights and the plants and the plants were still curling up so I figured the lights were too close, the temp in the closet is 79f at the hottest.

thanks for all the help guys. so the blackstar needs to be at least 12" away for the first few weeks?

I have been told 18-24 inches for veg and 12-18 inches for flowering with the Blackstar. Not exactly sure about seedlings but I would rock it at at least 18 inches.

I had lots of curl and fucked up leaves from having LEDs on too close & too young. I asked the girl at the sensi shop in amsterdam and she said NO strong LED's until the 3rd internode. She was right, in fact I'd probably put the LED on when the plant hits the 4th or 5 internode.
