Back in the old days, I had light movers (might still have one somewhere). Are they still popular, and if so, do you know any cheap sources??

Thanks!!

That is not what I meant. They had motorized tracks that would move a light back and forth very slowly. Had one and an extension, which got connected to the primary. They also sold something called a whirly-gig (or something like that) for larger rooms which moved them in a circular path, like an incredibly slow ceiling fan.

Thanks for the reply!!!

I see why they are not that popular, due to cost. Could buy another light and timers, and run them alternately at 1 hour intervals.

somewhere on the net... Jorge Cerventes talks about movers and their advantages... something like 90% yield in double the area... so 200% of a non-mover minus 10% is really what i mean...
plus the advantage that... with a mover lights can be brought even closer to plants as the heat isnt in one spot continously... so ultimately you can really deliver effective lumens to your plants....

they are also wonderful in a greenhouse for spreading supplementary light into double or triple the area of their normal function for only a fraction of the power consumption cost....

so when you look at power consumtiuon as a real cost... obviously it affects that as well...

also... a very important benefit... is the constant changing angle of the light... you dont get the dead spots as plants grow normally associated with a grow light.

these are just a few points.. :2cents:

Very excellent points!!!! Heat is big problem.

Have a look in your local classifieds for used units.
I picked up two Hydrofarm units for $100 for both of them.
So far I have only installed one of them and have yet to evaluate the results.
My LED panel was at the recommended 18-20 inches but it is now just above the canopy.
Travel time along the 4 foot length is 12 minutes.

I am thinking of adding some fluorescent panels along the sides to really get to the lower bud sites.
See if blasting them from the top and the sides will improve bud development.

Read a lot of good and bad about light movers on the net and on MMJ forums, so this will be a good test!
