Yeats'-- unfortunately, there isn't that I've found,... the cheapo skinny probes you see at garden centers, etc. aren't worth a dime, much less the $12-15,...and on the other end, it's pro models that are $150++,... these work more like a pH meter, really meant to be used in slurry tests; their probes are pretty big too, not meant for shoving into the soil, and scooping out enough soil would fuck up too many roots,... the A8 really is the best tool for the job,...about $55 new. When you consider what all the fix-it products cost, the amount of time and effort wasted fighting off-pH mediums, and the loss of yield, it's going to pay for itself pretty quickly,... I totally get that budgets are budgets, I'm just making a case for why prevention is less expensive than cure! You might even find a used one on e-bay that some dipshit couldn't figure out how to use, and claims it's broken or junk-

seriously, I see these imbeciles using to to test liquids, or never clean the tip, don't give it time to stabilize and read accurately,...

proof that many pinheads don't bother reading instructions, or understand how these units work,...

Shum, I trust the slurry test most, the r-o tests are crazy,.. doing the calculations, the pH would be in the 3's! The plants would be long gone, preceded by a host of defc. issues,... well, in any case, the pH is acidic, not alkaline, so lock-out of Fe/Zn are out, and S is too, just not the right symptoms that I see,... has there been cool conditions, like below 65F? Cold temps can slow transport of some nutes down enough to cause temporary defc. symptoms, Fe/Zn included,... could be this is just a lack-of deal, in which case, you need to up the feeds, or better still, pick up a micronutrient supplement; Earth Juice Microblast is my fav', about $10-12,...
What's the pH of your tap water? that can give a clue to hardness,... and if the soil is too acidic, this would be better, for the buffering minerals in it, which are gone in Di water,... you say the symptoms are fading now, using the Di water?
