There’s a town in Pennsylvania called “Centralia”…. It’s a ghost town, because the coal mine under the town caught fire in the 70’s and has never gone out….they had to evacuate the town….there are spots you can touch the ground and it’s hot….vents of toxic gas…..eerie place….. the remnants of what once was….

The fire actually started in 1962. From a kid til now, we drive that way to head to an amusement park up that way atleast once a year. Very sad to watch the demise of a small town over the years.

Traveled this state highway many times in the past.

Where we lived in NE UK we had near the surface (crap) coal seams....and fires could smolder for years along the seams...then it would break through the surface and it was bloody dangerous for anyone standing on them and dropping through to burning coals.

Was very smoky earlier with no wind but it is picking up and blowing away from us. Possibility for rain Friday but not major amount. There is talk of bringing in the military to help fight the fire. Waiting to here the 10:00 report to see how much it moved overnight.

I think I might chop my breeding project Golden Triangles today. They could use another week but I will lose them if I have to leave. I was hoping to get them past 100 days but 95 it is. They were both looking to hit that 1 pound mark but I guess I can always grow some more as I have my seed stash packed. Not big on the badge thing, but the pounder badge is bragging rights.

Now there was an animation of a "neanderthal" holding up a dog sized baby wooly mammoth to the sky like a shroomed up version of the Lion King. Kids shouldn't be allowed to watch this.
