Do we have anyone in the group that's a wiz with ph pens.

Not rinsing off well enough between calibrations and contaminating the other solution once I started rinsing really well in between it was better for me and or air bubbles around the eye. It always take me couple try’s to get calibrations perfect  If the mid range/neutral reading is on I typically run with it normally high and lows are really close
I give them a good swirl in distilled water between setpoints. The first 2 or 3 times I calibrated the new probe it always stabilized at 9.9 or 10.0 but now its like 8.5 to 9.0 and never goes any higher. How do you clean the bulb off, just rinsing it with pure water right?

It does say on the solution instructions use within 3 months of opening, you dont suppose its just bad solution now?

Sounds like your calibration solution has been diluted….

I think I found my answer. Did a quick Google search and apparently, according to Hanna instruments base calibration solution is only good for a max of 2 weeks after opening and being exposed to air. I guess it acidifies a bit after being exposed to air. Maybe from now on Ill just use the 2 point neutral and low set points. Im never gonna use a full bottle of 10.01 solution in under a month.

I’m a bit anal i use separate rinse cups for each point I always wondered if the tinyest bit was diluting the solutions and or changing them but I might be over thinking it. I replace my ph probe about yearly it cost me 30$ for a new apera probe. Could be bad solution but I know my stuff is older than that.

I also don’t know how much the high point will skew your readings. when I get done calibrating I normally check ph of the 7 solution to confirm calibration it’s normally within .02 or less and if not I recalibrate

I always pour it straight from its original container to the calibration vials that apera gave. And i always shake the probe off after rinsing between but I suppose a drop or 2 of distilled water would throw off thar reading in such a small vial

Ok I do the same thing and its usually within .01-.05. I figured if we were going by the second decimal place it wouldn't really be all that important since Im in soil, as long as Im within 6.3-6.5 i just water. But Im starting to wonder if Im actually in that range.

Sorry the whole skit is funnier but to those who haven’t seen the show maybe 3 gifs from it didn’t encapsulate it very well! Its supposed to be a guy who is a hater of black people but he is blind so he doesn’t know he himself is black! Plus its a black guy doing the skit so seems more ok vs a random white guy saying it! That would definitely be racist! Kinda like i can call myself a honky or a cracker!:rofl: :bighug:

Cheers for explaining....just the flashing N word is enough to send a UK -er into the vapors....

and with no context... I've got nothing to judge it with. :bighug:
