The term "AI" is similar to the term "cancer". Both terms are too broad to mean much without further detail. The differences between the Merlin bird song app and Chat GPT are good examples of the issue. Both are AI, or at least I would argue that they are. The Merlin app is trained from technically accurate information linking particular bird songs to specific species, Chat GPT is trained on harvested text usually without permission of the originator or real confirmation of the accuracy of the text. One is useful, and has low risk of causing harm, the other is potentially useful, but potentially dangerous if for example it offers medical advice when improperly or incompletely trained.Afternoon @Nightqueen..you good....?....
I think...I maybe wrong.. that AI...or algorithms Click into stories with the same key words and just keep repeating them as page fillers.....
Part of the problem with AI and the worries about it is that the term includes both safe and useful analytical techniques which steal nothing from anyone, other techniques which steal content both accurate and otherwise, but do little harm, and still others which may be used to enable AI to make decisions which could start or determine the outcome of wars or bring power grids or financial systems down.
I think it would be helpful to distinguish the different AI approaches, promote and encourage the safe and useful ones, and figure out very soon how to control the dangerous ones. None of which seems to be happening at the moment.
