I always take the tip of a pin and remove the membrane holding it together too. It’s easy, just support her with two fingers, and hook the membrane and it slips right off…. Then she’ll start collecting photons for maximum plant happiness

I planned on it actually. I spritzed her with a little balanced water and a micro dose of kelp to soften it. I'll look back in tonight and if she hasn't shed it, I'll give her the assist.
I used to have trouble with helmet heads until I changed my germ technique. I plant when the rootlet is just long enough to show a curve. If you orient the germed end at the 2 or 10 o'clock position, it pulls out of the helmet instead of pushing the helmet upwards . I haven't had a helmet head in years.
