I should clarify @Son of Hobbes I sprinkle the seasoning on the meat. I don't soak it because of the fact that after soaking the meat needs longer to dry. I just wanted to say longer meat

Is there a cheap'ish, like sub-$500 smoker a guy could buy to start getting into smoking? I had an electric smoker years back, and honestly loved it (so simple,) but it crapped out over time and I never replaced it. Haven't smoke anything in probably 8+ years.

I don't need anything fancy; just quality enough to produce something my fat ass will eat (the bar is not set very high here, but I'm trying to raise it.)

A dehydrator works well also

I followed the instructions on this one; I pat the strips dry several times (I probably could have done it even more; but they were getting to the point of being tacky to the touch.) Then sprinkled both sides, then mixed in the mixing bowl. Sealed up now, 24 hours in the fridge (or so, I might go at them in the morning so the kids can have some before they go back to their moms.)

We normally do a teriyaki/soy soak with our past jerky, then pat it dry before going in the oven. The kids love it (which is all that matters.) I leave the fat on the ends of them because nothing lasts long enough in this house to spoil.

I'm looking at a smoker and possibly a dehydrator.

Smoking is a pain in the arse. There is liquid smoke for flavor I recommend a dehydrator
