Good Morfnoevight all you happy stoners.
I got my truck back from B's shop and it just needed the idle speed screw set correctly to clear-up the rich condition in the speed part of the emissions test. B, the man I had do the work was trusted by Marlin, my late friend that built the motor. I wanted to take my truck to B in the first place but his dyno was not working. I took it to a shop I used a few years ago where it failed the test. The truck has been running great the past two years and I only have about 2000 miles on it since it was last smogged. I did not expect it to fail. The new shop wanted $270. just to diagnose the problem. My spidy senses raised on the back of my neck when they told me that. I opted to take the truck home and wait for B to get his machine working. When I picked up my truck today, B asked if I had closed the idle screw completely for some reason? I have not. He said it was completely closed and all he had to do to get the truck to pass the tests was to open the idle screw 2-1/4 turns which is spec. He asked if the check engine light routinely came on? No, it only came on after I left the new shop. Do we think they were trying to cheat me - YEP. The sad thing is I was considering taking our Honda there for service. The warranty period is over and the dealer is expensive for normal maintenance that B's shop does not handle. They stood to get hundreds of dollars of honest work from me, now not a cent again. B charged me $50 including the smog certificate. I gave him a tip and a jar of pickled pepperoncini.
Time for bed soon!
