I just watched a Youtube video that I cannot figure out why in the hell this guy is transplanting the way he's doing!
He's an organic guy talking about sustainable living soil in large GrassRoots Living Earth pots.
He shows them filling A big 30 gallon pot and then placing the transplant in a bottomless pot ON TOP of the freshly filled pot........................THAT'S IT! He doesn't remove the plant from what looks like a 3gal bag with no bottom.
It's just sitting there on top of the pot!:shrug::shrug::shrug::doh::doh::doh:
In the background you can see several other girls with the exact same setup and he has massive sticks of some sort holding the girl in place.
I guess I can see using a bottomless pot for your transplants for the ease of transplanting, but that's actually placing the plant inside the soil!:face:

I can't figure out what in the hell would the benefits be for doing it that way and making it more complicated! I don't mind complicated but I've got to have some benefit for doing it!

I don’t think it’s more complicated….the roots will spread out into the lower soil just fine…. :pass:

Maybe he's afraid of disturbing the roots? But he's limiting root growth to just the bottom of the pot, so wtf? Watching how they abuse the vegetable transplants in the community garden has been an eye opener for me. They yank the plant out by the stem and then hammer the roots out of the root ball to spread them out before they put it in a hole. I don't do that with autoflowers, but it has made me bolder about transplanting.

Sure it's more complicated! He's got big huge sticks holding the girls up. If he's going to use automated watering, Where does he place it? A 30 gallon pot is too large to efficiently water from a ring inside the small pot and if you place it in the big pot, The top of the small pot will dry out.
What is the benefit?
I see none whatsoever

Well he didn't really have a whole lot of roots to disturb, at least at the bottom that I saw.
I don't really see the need for a bottomless pot, but it'd be really easy to remove it!and actually plant it inside the big pot and not disturb the roots any at all. Just make sure it's watered enough, squish the sides in a little bit and pull the pot off downwards or with the plant being that small, it could have been pulled thru the pot.

My biggest question is, What the hell is the benefit?

I have done the same thing with a solo cup! No transplant shock the roots just keep growing downwards into the new pot! And its easier to not soak the roots just the larger pot which encourages the roots to grow down into the saturated soil!

Bottom of what pot? They will grow right out of the bottom of small pot and into the larger pot! All he did was make life easy vs digging a hole and removing the plant from the small pot cuz its gonna grow the same as if u did there is just no lag time cuz no shock they are having to get over!

@Frankthetank or anyone else know about these two portal regs?

These are most likely just until the plant roots into the soil….after that, you’ll have to cut the roots away to lift the top pot. There’s lotsa ways to grow weed…. Not everyone uses automation, etc.
