I thought about the
smoking lamp as soon as I saw his first post! It's kind of hard to believe that the smoking lamp's been out on all Naval vessels for quite a long while.
I always thought it was funny how people were waiting for one announcement after UNREP, other than "Secure from UNREP duty stations", THe Smoking Lamp is now lit!"
Well, at least on that cruise ship nobody should have no stupid dots behind their ear!

Damn pussies!

I had a 3rd class Engineman that claimed perpetual seasickness! The boy would turn colors at certain times!

I harassed him about needing 'Pussy dots'! His first time at sea, was when we pulled the carrier out of Norfolk. That boy didn't even make it to the #1 Buoy, before getting sick.

I really couldn't see how people aboard an aircraft carrier could get seasick. Such a Cadillac ride! I guess I could concede some getting sick when we were going around The Horn. I had never seen waves quite that large, even when trying to skirt a typhoon out in the Pacific, but that was on a damn tin can. I did gain quite a bit of respect For the men that went around The Horn in wooden ships! It really put the meaning to the term, 'The Days of Wooden ships and Iron Men!
The weather cleared when we got close to Valparaiso Chile and that's where the Destroyer that was our escort Went for repairs. Brand new destroyer! I could turn TV onto the aft camera and see the ship disappear in the waves, with only the top mast light showing. We lost a bunch of life rafts and I've never seen waves beat and bend railings .
