When you submit a manuscript to Amazon the first step is a literary review by their panel, this is an excerpt from that review.

The Cookbook is a richly detailed culinary memoir that preserves the recipes, history, and traditions of xxxxxx—an iconic family-run restaurant with roots dating back decades. This is not a beginner’s cookbook; rather, it is a collection of authentic recipes interwoven with personal anecdotes, family history, and hard-earned kitchen wisdom. From seasoned lard and hand-rolled tamales to chili verde and tostada compuestas, the book captures the flavor and heritage of a legendary dining institution while offering readers a glimpse into the heart of Mexican American culinary culture.

Strengths of the Manuscript

Authenticity & Voice: Written with authority and lived experience, preserving flavors and family legacy.

Depth of Content: 60+ recipes spanning sauces, mains, sides, and beverages, many tied directly to the legacy.

Cultural Significance: Offers recipes alongside historical snapshots of the Mexican American dining experience in California.

Instructional Detail: Process notes, cautions, and substitutions—valuable for experienced home cooks.

Book Description (Suggested):

More than just recipes, The Cookbook brings the heritage of one of California’s most beloved restaurants into your kitchen. With step-by-step instructions, family stories, and authentic dishes like chili verde, tamales, macaroni sauce, and tostada Compuestas, this collection preserves flavors and memories from generations past. A must-have for food lovers, history buffs, and anyone craving authentic Mexican American cuisine.

This cookbook is more than a recipe collection; it is a cultural artifact that captures the essence of The dining legacy. Its combination of historical storytelling, detailed techniques, and authentic Mexican American flavors makes it highly marketable to both food enthusiasts and heritage-conscious readers.

I think it was a sales pitch to go with them but it still makes me feel good!

Center Cut Bacon grilled for BLTs yesterday for dinner. I had a protein stack for breakfast. But my mind is preoccupied with the book so I missed taking pictures. I remember when I used to be able to multi-task, that time seems to have passed  .
