The best pipe from a technical perspective is the Proto-pipe design. The tar trap made from thick metal to cool down the smoke and effectively stick the tar to the bottom is brilliant.

I had a Proto Pipe back in the late 80’s. Handy and easy to clean but after a a year or so that fucking bottom trap started leaking goo making it impossible to carry in pocket. The tight tolerance wore down over time creating the leak. I never stored herb in the cylinder but rather a film case for easy loading.

Yep, Ive had that. I don't like a lot of things about those. Like that container. And when they get hot they will take forever to cool down. And scraping your teeth when that rubber falls off. But they were way ahead of their time in the sixties when they came out as I understand the story. I hadn't come out myself back in those days.
