This is my fifth grow using under lighting. I am consistently getting larger, denser buds on that side since I can’t rotate my plants. The branches are thicker as well. I turn them on around day 35. This pics below are from BB3 on the third set of branches.
In my case I am running 145 watts up top and 100 watts down below. Keeping my canopy mostly even allows the need for not blasting the top. I do see a large benefit to running under lighting as long as you can keep your temps in the optimum range.

I'm in peat too and 5 gal fabric pots. I give them 2 gal every 3-4 days. I agree with you on the watering, especially during flowering. One minute your like, ah they are good, the next min they are dry as a bone. I had some damage show up but I was pushing them to EC 1.8-2.0. They are back down to 1.2 and doing fine.
Add a little bit of surfactant to your water.
It'll help keep down dry pockets. This is what I use. A little goes a long way!

Ive used Roots Organic Original and dry Yucca for surfactant 5 years now.Add a little bit of surfactant to your water.
It'll help keep down dry pockets. This is what I use. A little goes a long way!
