More specifically, it was trained on RANDOM INTERNET BULLSHIT. And to set the record straight, there is zero intelligence here. It is just an illusion, much like all the other attempts at simulating "Intelligence" over the decades.
Actually, the long term picture is even worse as AI gradually trains itself more and more on other AI output as more and more content available for training has already been generated by AI. There is a real possibility that the quality (if I can even use that term) of the output could decline to the point of uselessness due to this training problem.

There is no question that AI is going to change a lot, particularly when specifically designed and applied to particular task, such as, for example, medical imaging (combination of AI and expert checking already beats the best experts on their own). Much computer programming is now being done by AI followed by checking by a human programmer. I suspect that medical imaging has alreay been found spectacularly effective at other stuff. I;d bet that the underlying image analysis in both Merlin bird app and the INaturalist apps are repurposed image analysis originally intended for medical imagery.

But large language models trained on text on the internet are another matter altogether in the long run. The dudes who figure this stuff out have to figure out how to avoid the obvious training traps, or the whole shebang could come down in a bleeding pile.

Your take on AI and programming is a bit off the mark. Nobody is checking the code. Doesn't matter anyway because its likely stolen from someone else's project.

Medical imaging applications demand the review of an actual radiologist. I do not know of any non-medical application where anyone is checking what AI is spitting out. Hence we have teddy bears asking children what they like in a sexual partner.

The problem is that AI is being pushed as a cure-all for our information gathering needs, which is horrifying both in concept and application.

Perhaps if it were not for the greed of "tech giants" it might have wound up useful. As things are, it is doomed as are its investors.

Digital medical imaging is my career. I hope that aspect survives the bubble that is about to burst.

Apparently nvidia (or however its spelled) posted record sales and profits today! Above what was expected that got them a trillion $ evaluation! I’m not an investor so not 100% positive on the details!

And you can almost hear the sound of a balloon stretching to the point of bursting.

It's coming. Nobody wants that garbage infiltrating every aspect of their lives. Nobody.

That's not stopping tech from shoehorning it in everywhere they can. Have to keep the investor dollars flowing.

Remember the .com fiasco of the 90's? This is the same thing for the most part.

Ya but did hear someone point out its caused the stock price to stretch so much its similar to the general internet bubble that grew too big and burst back in the day!
