Hello everyone.

About twenty-five years ago, I fancied myself as a creative type. I got into weed culture pretty hardcore for several years. I was pretty well read on the medical benefits and the spiritual applications surrounding marijuana even when there wasn't much information to be had. As circumstance or dumb luck would have it, though, I stopped using. I moved away from the culture. I made one of the worst decisions in my life...I decided to grow up and try adulting for a change. As it turns out, adulting sucks.

Two and a half decades of adult living has taken a toll on me. The constant stress of my chosen profession has resulted in bouts of panic and generalized anxiety. It has caused recurring chronic eczema. I also suffer from insomnia several nights a week.

Recently, my wife and I moved so she could accept a new job. Luckily for me, it is in a much much more marijuana friendly environment. Also lucky for me, but this move has given me the opportunity to leave the profession that I believe was slowly (or not so slowly) killing me. So, here I am at a crossroads. I've decided to travel the path that allows me to take back some semblance of control of my life.

I have a new job and I am getting at least one new hobby, hence my reason for lurking for several months here. I've lurked for several months at several different sites, but this is where I feel like I will be most at home.

So, I told my wife that I was going to start to grow to help with some of my issues. She is fine with that. However, I would be in breach of my lease if I were to grow marijuana. So, I did what any self-determined and self-respecting person would do...I am building a stealth cabinet.

Now, I am just waiting for some things to arrive so I can begin my new hobby in earnest. I feel prepared to take on the challenge of growing a weed in a box. I have grown a lush fruit and vegetable garden in the Sonoran Desert after all. I am fairly well read on the cultivation of marijuana and various techniques for indoor growing. With that said, though, I am just a noob. I know I will make mistakes and ask for help. I will try to learn as much as I can from good folks like you who've gone before me. I earnestly hope that you welcome me into the family and that we can learn something from each other.

By the way @TaNg, if you're out there and you happen to see this...you inspire me, brother! You get some of the most amazing results using your setup and the amount of time and effort that you put back into this community is not only admirable, it is downright awe-inspiring. Keep up the excellent work. You're one of the big reasons I'm here and not some other place.

Really an excellent first post...great to meet you and good luck on all of your grows!! This line "So, I did what any self-determined and self-respecting person would do...I am building a stealth cabinet." totally deserves some reputation!!

Thank you for the welcomes.

My setup will be, when everything arrives:

An Ikea Galant storage cabinet that measures 80 cm x 45 cm x 120 cm.

The walls are lined with Reflectix double-reflective insulation that's attached to the walls with 2 inch industrial strength Velcro.

I have a 4 x 8 Phresh carbon filter sitting on the floor of the cabinet with an Active Air 4 inch inline fan on top of that with the Active Air Controller.

I'm waiting on a single 135 watt Quantum Board LED kit from Horticultural Lighting Group and I should get that by the end of next week.

Right now, I have a single 14.6 L air pot, but I may go with a couple smaller ones to help keep the height of the plants under control.

No soil yet. Haven't settled on anything just yet.

I plan on buying Advanced Nutrients at my local hydroponics shop if my seeds ever arrive (they've been intercepted once).

So...that's what I've got so far. Am I doing ok?

Hey @mcpd_refugee and welcome to AFN my man. thank you for your wonderful intro post, it has been a great read over my morning coffee and bought my first smile of the day :bighug: thank you.
Glad you have made AFN your home, you won't be disappointed. I love it here, everyone is super friendly and always ready to help.
When you get your kit set up get journal a going and tag me ( @Slater ) and I will jump on in to help out. I'm just about to start a grow that has a 120cm height limit with a new DIY light I've just finished, here's a link to see the set up I've got going. I've just got wait for few lady's to finish up by the end of next week then I'm off. I've gone with 20ltr air pots (blue bottoms) and cut them down by 3 holes from the top to gain that few inches but still give me a good pot size. I'm running Remo nute's for the first time (some of the pro's on here have dropped AN for Remo and are not looking back) I may even do it in coco for the first time. I'm also planning to scrog the plants to help keep the height down.... soon as I get my journal up and running in the next couple of days I'll tag ya, looks like its going to be grow along side one of the mods @budelee , I recommend his threads for training, he's the man for that, here's the link if you haven't already found it in your lurking days.

Have fun my man, passing the joint that never go's out
