Looking to make my first compost tea. Can I use 'Soil conditioner'?

DTOM420, great posts! Totally agree. If you have access to aged horse manure then you can for sure get some red wigglers out of it. You could get a really good compost pile going (also look into mulched leaves), and have a much more biologically active source for compost teas than anything you would buy in a bag. Red wigglers (eisenia fetida) are excellent composting worms that will stay in the top part of the compost pile, they don't tend to go very deep. The nightcrawlers are the exact opposite. I wouldn't get too caught up though in all that when you're getting started.

Is that you, Tad? Thanks for the kind words!

Night Crawlers , [ native ] I am not after worm casting , soil building is what I am doing . As I have very poor soil I make my own . And I want to use leaf litter as a food for the worms and I use horse manure . I also add other ingredients My aim is to make a microbe dense soil .Which I can make tea out of as well .

You dont need to populate a compost bin with worms.
Build it and they will come!

Assuming your bin is outdoors and in contact with the bare earth that is*

if i could I would farm European night crawlers,African night crawlers, and red wigglers.then get some frass and have some bomb flower additions Au natural :) Teas n so forth. But MS tells me I shouldnt LOL Kinda like EF hutton, when that dude talks I totally listen LOL

Triple cast ,home brew style mate. Teas, top dressings soil amendments for flowering heavy strains, really great to dial in a soil and items for your grow like that.its great.been doing it for awhile now and just stared doing triple cast feedings. works great.I think you are really really gonna dig it mang.

Thanks again for your help gentleman.

I will reconsider my bin; i have something lined up already

Been busy with a harvest and work so sorry for long delay in getting back to you all.

@henco @Eyes on Fire (how do you bloody tag usernames?!)
Can I initialize my bin with a light mix soil and my leaf litter on top? The reason I ask is I have BioBizz light mix which is organic. Im finding it hard to source organic soil from a local store.
I could only find composts and soil conditioners, none of which were organic.

As far as worms go, I can get some night crawlers form my local fishing tackle shop which for me is going to be easier than hunting them myself.

I will add those when I'm ready and will let nature populate the rest!

composts and Soil conditioners that are non organic?hmmm, thats interesting.but yeah like most bins with moist soil or stuffs and drier materials like you ae talking about its good to moisten some newpaper or plain paper towels or plain paper and wet that down as to keep some weaight on the dry leaves after misting them,it'll do fine ime. there are a few ways to do it but that should work alright.add some azomite to the soil in the bottom.as you probably see in the worm farm link.but you can crumble the litter up if its all dry and mix it throughout the top of the soil and cover it lightly..Happy harvesting :)

I'm only assuming they were non organic based on the fact they didn't say they were:face:

I've soaked my dry leafs in dechlorinated water with molasses as suggested so would you think they will.be most enough? They've been soaking since I picked them up saturday.

Cheers again for your time and input
