Lighting Lower canopy is a big budlet jungle

Just getting started with autocobs so can’t really comment there. I am in agreement about you might have waited a little to long to clean up under your ladies skirts and might have to make the best of it. She looks beautiful and with the right air flow and nice low humidity you should be able to get her over the finish line moldfree. You can always make some quality hash out of those fluffy buds.

I like to just get in there when those are just little sucker buds starting out and pinch them all off. I don’t do an official lollipop but I get in there and remove anything I “feel” doesn’t belong there, including small branches that will never make it to the light, and just know is going to be reducing my yield up top. I say feel because it does become a feeling, an instinct, you develop over harvests. I don’t even think about it otherwise I might get scared I’m screwing up and stop.

I have a friend, grows 5-10 at a time and he has me over just to smoke out and go pinch his sucker buds and branches off. He is too much of a chicken to do it himself. Even after he has seen increased bud development up top. I don’t mind, it’s like trimming, get in the right frame of mind and that becomes fun to me as well. I told him it’s just like sculpting, you chip away all the stuff that doesn’t belong there. :smoking:

Don’t worry too much, you are going to have some nice buds that you grew yourself and that makes it all worthwhile. :pass:

thanks for the laugh re: your buddy who doesn't want to risk doing something wrong so he gets you to do it! And thanks for the encouragement. If it plays out well, I might harvest this one in phases. I'm still a bit shocked at how much growth I found. Happened very fast. Which must be a good thing!

Yea but guess who makes his bubble hash for him and makes good use of all his trim to do it. I bring over my washer and he supplies everything else and I go home with 50% of it. :woohoo:Sometimes laziness can work out in your favor.

Lower growth is a nuisance. I usually lollipop to slow the larfy stuff. One thing that’s important that I am always asked is about penetration. Light intensity does have little to do with it. You see so many people angling lights and that’s just it. We know how to get better penetration but don’t even know we do.
Something I have referenced quite often in the past and worth another post. If you are in a dark room with a flashlight pointed at the ground and cover the light with your hand no light hits the floor. If you are in the same space with 2 flashlights and cover one plenty of lighy hits the floor. Our hands are like leaves. The more leaves the worse it is. The more light sources (flashlights) the better the penetration. Hope this helps.

Know you are super busy and this is kind of off topic from autocobs..... so will try to be short and sweet @BigSm0

I'm afraid of lollipopping and taking off too much and at doing it at the wrong time. Curious, when do you do it and how much do you remove? And do you do any tie down LST once you do it or is it not necessary? And do you top as well?

If you think you're only 2 weeks out bro I wouldn't lollipop right now wait until next time you grow because you're you're kind of late for lollipopping right now you can take off some of that lower stuff but I really don't recommend it taken off a lot just a little bit but if you're only 2 weeks you think and not like 4 more weeks I wouldn't worry about it right now you're fine just let it go tuck your leaves a little bit take off maybe a little bit of the bottom stuff that you know is not going to make anything and that will help your buds but I would just do it next time really there's no reason for you to obsess over lollipopping at this point... when you grow next time like I told you in the first article lollipop within the first week of flipping you can do it just before you turn the lights to 12 12 or you can do it within the very first week at 12:12 and then you can trim at week 3 and it week 5 and that's depends on if it's indica or a sativa dominant no more than that
hope that helps you bro take care

So, to sum up for my own understanding @Growtogrow , you can trim/defoliate as they start to flower, then again at week 3 of flower and lastly at week 5 of flower. I am in the same situation as I have a bushy MG Double Grape. She has been in flower about 7-10 days. Am I safe to take some leaves that might be covering some internal budsites now? Then again in several weeks take some more leaves? Would like to maximize the harvest by getting this beast of mine light to all buds that need it. Thanks in advance.

Hey buddy well you're at 2 weeks at your low point and 5 weeks at your high point right okay some of your lower stuff you could take off I would practice Leaf tucking and finger trimming that's where you can take some of the upper leaves and trim the fingers off the ends of them to give you more light to the lower stuff I'm not familiar with that strain is that a sativa or is that an indica which is dominant?

Excellent! I did remove some of that fluff budlet stuff. I also tightened up some of the ties I have pulling the side branches away so there is more daylight down below.

And I have a couple of other plants that just started to flower and I trimmed off quite a bit down low, more than I have in the past, so I should avoid this with those two plants.

Every grow is a learning experience and the following grow I end up making some adjustments.

Thanks for the info you shared.
