I grow with salt nutrients and hand water. I feel that one of the biggest pains is setting up water and throughly mixing everything up. Im always running around and spending countless hours stirring or running back and forth. It was getting ridiculous. I bought this unit a few months ago and I have to say that it is a big saver of time and energy. A bit on the pricey side but worth it in my eyes so I figured I'd share.

I did put a glass plate under the stirrer to quiet it down and the first one they sent was defective. Other than that, thumbs up!

Yes, this does the job of stirring and is very convenient, but seems more than is needed, at least the cost. Simply blowing air/bubbles or a mixer (stirring rod/impeller driven by a motor) does the job. Even with full hydroponics, I don't see any actual need for magnetic stirring of feed reservoirs. If I had severe problems with salts-based feed and reservoir mixing, I'd switch to nutrients/additives that don't have the problems.

[Background: Magnetic-driven stirring rods/impellers are primarily used where chemical reactivity, sterilty and leaching/contamination are concerns, with the stirring bar generally coated with PTFE/Teflon or other inert plastic. With no driving rod extending into reaction or fermentation vessels: chemical reactions and bioprocessing can be run under controlled atmospheres and without chemical reactions or leaching from steel or other metal; lubricant/sealant (needed where the stirring rod enters the vessel) use/contamination is avoided; the magnetic stirring bar can be much more easily cleaned and sterilized to high standards and packaged/stored vs. more complex mechanically-driven assemblies; etc.]
