Lighting Mars II 700W temperature question

At this point we are not worried about smell as you have at least a month till even buds are formed if your growing Autos.

What i am trying to do is get info from you on cfm sizes and what not so i can help.

You haven't answered many questions which leaves it hard for myself and others to help.

I own many lights of Mars. The Mars|| 900w 192x3 reflector and others.

And the Air blowing up towars the light is solely to help air movement in your tent which will help extract hor air.

It has 187M3/h airflow rate, weedman if you have owned so many of their units,is it normal for Mars II units that the case gets very hot? If they go faulty how do you know they faulty for sure? What are the usual symptoms of faulty LED lights ? Can you do any thing to decrease the rpm of the cooling fan on the unit to lower down temps ?
So far it looks to me that the lights are ok and there might be problem with my space (to small), which mean that this light is not fit for my space. Weird cause I wanted to buy old 300W unit with 3W LED and was convinced to go for Mars II 700W by one of they representatives. So now I need to know if I should return the light and try to exchange for something that is not gona fry my plants. I got new seed in the pots should I hang the ligh back and give it a go ?..really wanted to try them out but now I don't think it is good idea with this lights or should I do it ? What do you think

Hi guys thanks for yours respond , and jackmc that's exactly what I was asking, but I need more people like you that own Mars II 700W model to say " yeah that is normally expected temperature with this lights", or say "no the lights are faulty, they never should be that hot". You know what I mean....if the temperature is what it is I might return it to the shop as product recommended but not fit for purpose, and exchange it for Mars II 400W or it would make no difference temperaturewise, what do you think guys ? Anyone can compare this two models ? The ambient temperature in te room with the grow tent is around 23C (with the window open about 18C)and in the tent with 550W CFL is about 26C. The tent is of size 90x90x160cm and if it comes to it, I will invest in bigger tent (100x100x180cm) don't have more than that space unfortunately, but if I can bring it down to 26C I am happy. Jackmc what is yours tent size ?

I have a 100cm X 100cm x 77cm tall tent that I ventilate with a 3 cubic meter per min. inline fan and a fan speed controller. I change the speed depending on the ambient temp. I try to keep the temp around 27C to 28C. If you have an ambient temp of 23C outside your tent and you crank a lot of air through your tent you should be able to keep your temps in the range you're targeting.

I don't think that your light is defective. Mine gets hot but not so hot that I can't leave my hand on it. I also have a Mars original style light with 3W bulbs and it's about 77cm above my seedlings right now ant the temp at seedling level is 25C. My point being that it's not much cooler than the Mars II. However I think you made a good choice on the light. I believe that the intensity of the 5W bulbs keeps my plants short which works for my situation. :goodluck:

BTW I extract air from the top of my tent to control temp & smell.

Hey, jackmc yours tent is smaller than mine, I decided to hang this lights back up for another go, this time with the pots and beans in them. Thanks jackmc and weedman30 for everything you have inspired me, I have ordered new extraction vent 300M3/h
that will help if not , I will buy bigger tent. I am very happy that the lights are seem not to be faulty, it could be a hustle. That's my setup in the back ground there is still hanging my 250W cfl ,just in case if I have to go back to cfl (hope not)

Thanks for for that Info I would upgrade to a Stronger Fan and then look into a speed controller for your Fan. That way you can Pin point your Temps to what you need. Possibly a bigger tent down the road 3.5x3.5ft even a 4x4 you could rock the 700w.

I just went and put my hand on 2 old style 300w units they were warm not hot and have been running 14 days 24/7. Same with my 192x3w reflector warm to touch. The 900w unit was by Far the Warmest and my Tent is 82F the Light is in. I could imagine with the 5w LEDs in these Units Yes they will run warmer on us and if your tent is hot your light will be hot as they will only be as cool as the Air in the Tent as that's what they are cooling with using their Fans. I wouldn't be to worried about a warm case of your light as when you get a new Fan it will Fix It i belive.

You have checked the Light while running to make sure both Fans on the unit are operational correct I'm sure you have just want to rule that out lol. As accidents do happen on the Assembly im sure. Also both Fans are both pulling Air in and Pushing out through the sides as they should?

A good way to tell a Faulty led is Very dim diodes lights malfunctioning Fans non operational. Also invest in a $5-8 kill-a-watt meter to make sure light is functional at proper wattage and it's not running crazy high or crazy low. The 700w should be operating around 334-339 from what Iv seen from others with the 700w.
It doesn't seem your light is Faulty though and if it is that's the Great thing of the Warranty. I think our problem is Air exchange and tent size but with proper air exchange it wouldn't matter if that light was in a 2x2x2 cardboard box you could get that box to desired temps.

i enjoy the 300w panels I own 4 and love them never had a problem with em. I think two of those even 1 in your tent would of been great. But the rep did their job and wanted you to get more bang for your back so to say.

Id hang the light higher then they say as we don't want your seedling to burn. Start at 40-45 inches above seedlings honestly you could leave your light higherer this entire grow since your over powering a 3x3 tent with that 700w. By all means it'll be a GREAT grow man

Yessss that's what I like to see man. That fan will make a huge difference for you if you have to now of temps leave a side of the tent un zipped untill your fan arrives.
That should get the job done did you look into a speed controller as well. Their well worth it.

Oh and by the looks of your Tent covered in light that Mars is diff not Faulty.

Glad to see ha up and running man

Thanks weedman30, is greate relieve knowing that there is nothing wrong with the lights. I have put it up yesterday and so far temps are around 25C and stay stable !!!!
The only thing this time I done different is the light is lower about 15 cm maybe 10 cm from the top (than before)so it has more space itself to draw cooler air. The cooling fans are not going as mad as last time when testing, and it doesn't blow that amount of hot air.
Yours post weedman30 is great info, I cannot remember reading anyware, anything, about how you know you LED lights are faulty, and hope that more people like me can benefit from today's lesson hahaha.
O, and about lights above the seedlings distance, unfortunately I have only about 39" to play with, so it had to do. Hope it will not burn my seedlings when they pop up.
if I upgrade tent, because of lack of space it still won't be huge upgrade.Mine is 90x90x160cm and I might change it,if it comes to it for 100x100x180cm. What do you think, will it make any difference ?

Ok, guys to conclude the topic, my mistake was placing the led lights to high and to close to the ceiling causing it to overheat and go into some survival mode(by making a lot of weird noises and blowing out a lot of heat). The new fan will help me to bring the heat down even more, no doubt about it, and that is what I am intending to do. Do you thing I need more vertical space for the lights? Or I am ok ?
Anybody with some similar problems please say something , I not want to make your mistakes and you don't want to make mine. but I am still thinking that my tent is too short for the lights.

Hey guys , I have got update for you.
The light is awesome !!!!!
At the end, after lowering the lights, temperature got back to what I expected at the beginning, and I didn't have to do anything. So I returned the fan and now I have temps, inside the grow tent and the room (that the grow tent is inside) that differ 1C to be lower inside the tent !!!!so if the room temps are around 25C the grow tent temps gona be same or even lower.
awesome !!!!
Plants are growiing vigouriously, very compacted. Cannot be more happier , that was my best move to buy this lights I will post some pictures if there is still some interest.

Well done chum. Glad you are a happy bunny.

ps, did you do an intro ? Would love to see you over there to say Hi to everyone.

cheers, eP.
