Grow Mediums MassMom's Ongoing AutocCob, AutoPot, AutoFlower Adventure :-)

Hi MassMom and all, I'm also growing in a cold cellar, it runs from 55-65F this time of year. I'm doing ok with tent temps but do I need to worry about the temps of the water/feed in the reservoir?

My autopots reservoir is outside the tent and usually the water is around 67°F, tent runs 65-73°. If it’s an autopot reservoir I wouldn’t worry about it too much, not sure about other systems. With autopot trays only holding about a half liter at a time I would think the water would have time to warm up. Although, if your rez is sitting on the cold cellar floor, I recommend putting it on a chair or something to keep it off the cold floor. Check your water temp in the rez, if it’s below 60° I might be concerned. I also have my tent on a pallet which keeps it off the floor as well but that was for a different reason originally.

I understand about having to take a break. Real life has different priorities and you have to do, what you have to do.

As for your temps, my tent since I switched to autocobs lighting my temps have dropped significantly and now that winter is here it’s only going to get cooler. My 24 hour temps range from 64-73° and it really doesn’t seem to be bothering my lady at all. I forgot to mention when talking exhaust earlier, that besides putting it on a temp controller, I also take the exhaust and have it vent into the room where my tent is, instead of to the outside. Every little bit of heat helps. This is the temp controller I use.

That is good to know, the lower temps were starting to get me scared! I prob wont turn on the exhaust fan for a while. My exhaust fan will also blow into my room~ not outside. I figured I would take advantage of any heat I can! Right now I have on (1) autocob high up in the tent, but still have the 65W Cfl on over the babies for heat. Thank you hon :-)

Hi Flipper. I have never had to deal with cold temps before I moved into this house with no heat upstairs (where my tent is). My past grows I was always dealing with how to get the heat DOWN!!...ha ha. My upstairs is not as cold as a cellar though. The res has to be up off the ground a few feet for the gravity to make the wicking action work...so what about putting the res up on a table or something, and maybe even wrapping it in some sort of insulation?

DAY 5 since initial pot watering and germinated seeds were planted. DAY 3 since babies showed their faces. I really didn't want to water with first feed today as the coco still seems real moist. (the key to getting a good root system is to have the ladies SEARCH for water...yes?) What do you guys think? Watch and wait a few more days?

Hey flipper. Do you have a grow journey/journal I could check out?

I go with watering pot with 1.5L before placing germed seed, then after they sprout up give them 5 days before I give first feed of 500mls, then on day 10 750ml to 1L, then on day 15 1L. On day 20 I prep the res with 5 gallons of nute solution turn on and last top water of about 1L each pot to make sure they start drinking from the trays.

Just from what it moist on top I'd say its really wet. Thats all coco right?

The best thing I think you can do is get the $5 moisture meter with the single skinny probe and stick that down in the substrate a few inches and towards the middle and get some readings off it in multiple spots in the pots. If you're pinned far right in the blue you are saturated. In the middle you are good. Just starting to lean towards red, say like a 3 on the scale, its time to water the outer edges. Why guess at the most important aspect of rocking some great healthy vigorous seedlings? And if you're using coco, I'd be using some nutes right out of the gate.

MassMom, I can’t tell you anything different from what @bushmasterar15 has already told you, as we both do the same thing. I do believe this we both stole from @Hansbricks.

awesome, thank you. I didnt know when people say "Day 5" if it meant 5 days after the initial pot watering...or 5 days after they sprout.
