Mephisto Genetics 24 Carat – The Short Fat Pheno under 2 x MarsHydro 300s
Freebie Seeds :
I’d tried to order some 24C but they went out of stock – after a quick re-pick of some Sour Crack << another variety that can throw some small phenos (so many nice beans to try tho being a cabinet grower height limit does restrict strains somewhat).
While I commend those who try to mini-grow a larger strain in small pots I’ve never mastered that art << tho many here have.
When ordering from Mephisto I always mention (in the follow up payment email) that I prefer Indica heavy strains, couch locking does not equate to brain locking for me, and I can blast away in couchlock doing graphics pain free all night long… you know it’s good gear when your wide awake brewing the wife a coffee as she gets up for work (oops). Also the Indicas being bushier tend to be good candidates for height restricted grows, there’s no point in getting top notch Mephisto freebies I can’t grow myself.
So when they offered me some 24C ‘Short Fat Pheno’s’ as freebies I was overjoyed as well as a little curious – I love the pheonotype variety in early x selections.
Of the 5 beans I only managed to germ 3, which is unusual for me as I don’t normally have any problems with Mephisto beans – but they me be from older stock – 24C was after all their first finished project.
Sorry I don’t do grow journals but I will let these pics speak for themselves.
All the plants were super short (around 12" at harvest), and were very dense (there was a lot of inner pruning of foliage to try and let air thru the canopy). At harvest this did mean there was more popcorn and immature bud than with a normal 24 Carat - but nothing goes to waste and I will make some canna butter when I've got enough trim. Each plant yielded over 50g dry with one topping 62g dry, which I think is pretty damn good for a plant less than a foot tall without any special training.
I doubt Mephisto could be persuaded to reproduce these for the mini-growers but it might be worth enquiring as to the availability of these.
Would make a good breeders project for someone
