Didn't see a complete grow guide in one piece, so I decided I would put some time into creating one. I'm not the most accomplished grower, but I have read a lot of material by great growers from multiple forums. This is just my take on all the information I have sifted through. Hopefully, it can be used to help people move from "thinking about growing" to "starting to grow" status. Thank you
SETUP
For your setup, you want to be conscious about your light leaking. Light leaks are harmful in two major ways. The first being the more obvious; your plants are losing some of the potential the light has to offer. The second has to deal with people finding your operation. Light leaks can and will cause suspicious neighbors to snoop around. This can lead to horrendous outcomes. So be careful!
Anyhow, find a closet, or build your own makeshift tent with wood/cloth. I prefer using a tent over closet just because I'm lazy.
BEFORE YOU PLANT YOUR SEEDS
Make sure you have a pH meter, as most tap water runs waaaay too high of a pH for plants to thrive on. The optimum pH for marijuana is between 6.2-6.5. My tap water however runs at 8.3. So make sure that you go out and buy some pH adjusters and a pH measuring kit.
GERMINATING
For this step, I did not bother with adjusting the pH of the water, but it is HIGHLY recommended.
1. Separate your seeds by strain so they do not get mixed up (only for those with multiple strains).
2. For each group of strains, grab a cup.
3. Fill the cups 1/5 of the way with pH adjusted water.
4. Place each strain of seeds into their own seperate cup.
5. Wait for 24 hours, and check to see if the seeds have sunk to the bottoms of the cups. Gently stir the cup if there are some floating, and if they still do not sink, wait for a few more hours.
6. Once your seeds have sunk, they are ready to plant. To reduce stress, it is recommended for you to plant directly into 1 or 3 gallon pots to remove the need for transplanting. Be sure you water your soil BEFORE planting the seeds so that the seeds are not washed away.
7. The seeds should start sprouting within 3 days.
WEEK 1
Your plants should start sprouting, some earlier than others. But by the end of the first week all will have come up out of the dirt. Nothing interesting going on yet.
WEEK 2
Your plants should show a large amount of growth compared to the first week. Mine for example, grew it's second and third set of leaves in this week.
WEEK 3
Start your nutrient feeding in this week. I suggest only using half the dose listed on your nutrients. So if the nutrient packaging states 1tsp - 1gal of water then simply half that to 0.5tsp - 1gal. Some of your plants if male should be showing their sex in the middle of this week. A few females should start appearing as well. If you do not want your female plants to become pollinated, carefully take out the males and either throw them away, or set them in an isolated area. Remember, pollen WILL travel far.
WEEK 4
By the end of the week for all your plants should be finished showing their sex. Some of your female plants will start to develop bud. (This is where the excitement begins
)You can up the dose of nutrients to 3/4th.
WEEK 5
Full dose of nutrients can be delivered to your plants. If some of your plants are not flowering by now, I suggest changing your light schedule to 12 on and 12 off as there is probably something wrong with the auto gene.
WEEK 6~9
Basically the same as week 5, except you have the choice of upping your nutrients SLIGHTLY, or keeping it at full dose. Watch out for insects and mold.
After week 9, most of your plants should be ready for harvesting
I will work on a harvesting guide sometime soon, hopefully, but until then this is all I have to offer.
I know it is a very simple guide, but if you have ANY questions, people here will be glad to answer so you can post here or make your own thread!
GENERAL RULES
1. DO NOT over water your plants. Generally, a cup and a half of water a week is enough for the plants.
2. Water your plants consistently on the same day. This helps you keep to a schedule, which prevents you from forgetting to water, or watering excessively.
3. DO NOT over feed your plants with nutrients. Nutrients help plants grow to a certain extent, but too much of something is always bad. Be patient. If your plants aren't growing as fast as you'd like them to, just wait. Pouring nutrients over them are not going to help.
4. Keep your operation to yourself. Boasting about your grow operation is one of the most common reasons for people to get caught and in trouble. I only tell people that I trust the most.
5. Have fun. The most important part of taking care of your plants is to enjoy it. What's the point of growing for yourself if you're just slaving away without a smile on your face?
Anyhow, I hope you enjoyed my mini-guide, and I wish all you readers the best of luck in your operations
GOOD LUCK
