New Grower Miracle Grow Potting Mix, as bad as I have heard?

I am using a Scotts soil for one TD that i'm growing now simply because I was out of the MG and couldn't get any around here this time of year. I treated it the same as my other plants and it is doing well but is slower growing. I think that what people forget is that growing MJ inside in containers is tricky to begin with. There is a whole lot more to it than the soil. I can't emphasize really good lighting too much. Too often I see a tall scraggly plant with just overhead lights in a otherwise dark closet with nothing on the side or any reflective materials. Another thing is proper watering techniques. I'm watering plants right now as I type this and it may take me an hour. Foliar feeding-make sure you hit the undersides of the leaves. I've ben doing this inside thing since about the mid 1980's and still learn something new on every grow. Anyhow-good luck everyone:peace:

yeah man, like i said im gonna take this lady out and let her finish her life in a small pot and start a new one in about 2 weeks in the big pot im using, things i plan to do; add some more air flow, get a soil less nuted out (not experienced enough for mg i dont think), and get better lighting, speaking of lighting since your here you wanna come over to this thread and see what you think? im working on gaining knowledge in all areas before i start a new lady

Amazon.com is your friend. Also, try going to like foxfarms.com and seeing where your nearest provider is. It may be an hour or two drive but definitely worth it.
yeah thats what people keep telling me, honestly tho i dont want to go so far out of the way for one auto, i used to grow outdoors but i have moved up north now and its not as easy to go outside for it, and im growing more for the passion of growing rather than maximizing my yield, i just love watching it grow :p its such a rush for me, although i do miss the rush or guerrilla growing, knowng that anyday things could get out of hand if i was caught made it like a mission everyday, then again i like the safety of my own home now as well haha

I've been growing small plants in mg for over a year. I'm always on the verge of some sort of lockout. I've even been rinsing and recycling the dirt and adding ammendments but the sllow release formula just keeps droppin my ph hard core. I am getting some promix from lowes for my new ones although they only carry the large bag. My current batch is 6 weeks old. I've been feeding 7.5 ph water and very light nutes for 3 weeks and I just tested my runoff and it's around 4.5 so now I gotta do a full flush again. The slow release nutes just seem to keep going and going and going. Anyone who can do well with MG my hats off to you. This forum has saved me

But you see it's really very to use and thats what I like about it. Over the years I've found that the more i messed with the soil the worse things got. I'm not one of those people that can add nutes to the soil and exactly what kind when the plant wants it without overdoing it. BTW I don't add any nutes to the soil for a 3 wk old plant. And when I start I always go foliar. Good Luck

I'm not saying it is impossible to grow in by any means. I have an amazing creme mandarine that should give me close to 3 oz in some right now that was potted by a friend, but it takes some experience to know what to do when it burns or starts to lock out nutes or whatever the many challenges using it can present. Not using it is way easier for new growers.

I would order your dirt from amazon as well. It can be more expensive, but its convenient and the return in your end product will make you forget all about it. I personally grow in coco mixed with peat moss and pearlite. It's affordable and easy to use. I also use the general organics go box. It's 35 bucks on amazon and the combination of the two have given me plants with 2-3 oz every time and no nutrient issues.

Good luck man! Hope it helps! And green karma to your sad girl. I hope she can come back for you!

Shipping will kill you when ordering heavy bags of soil from any internet reseller. Best to find a local nursery or green house supply store. Also check Ace Hardware. Some of them carry Pro Mix and other specialty soils. Bonnie also makes a potting soil that is very similar to Pro Mix that is available at Ace and Lowes. All the same ingredients, at the same percentages, minus myco, which is easy to add yourself. For a Pro Mix dealer check here: http://www.pthorticulture.com/en/peat-moss-distributors/

I have been lurking out here for a few months now. I can't start my grow 'till May. I have learned so much here from all these wonderful people. I like to use this quote "OMG AFN has changed my life" It seems to pretty much sum up my feelings about this community.

hate to necro this thread but I will say that my first several auto grows were in MG soil with 50% perlite and had kick ass results every time.

I even used earth juice grow on top of the slow release mg nutes in the soil and then earth juice bloom at half strength. I think that cutting it with 50% perlite helped out a lot for sure.
Seedlings never burned in it (masterlows-mdanzig) but it could have been the fact that they were very hardy little plants.

As for the mg organic I am using some without perlite and some with a little bit in it as its all I have on hand so I will see how that goes.

One thing I will say about the mg organic choice is it often does have rather large chips of bark in it but I plan on sifting those out for a much finer medium and of course cutting it 40-50% perlite and only using ej bloom throughout.
