Right so i've had a idea, you know those little packets that come in beef jerky packets that say do not eat on them... well after i realised that they are actually moisture absorbing packets had a thought that they might also be useful for the drying of your finished product as well as keeping your munchies nice and fresh. I'm considering giving it a try. any thoughts?

its silica, some people use boveda packs to keep moisture at certain levels in jars etc which are similar but not one use only. hxxp://www.amazon.com/Humidipak-Boveda-Humidifier-Pack-65/dp/B000A3SZXQ you would need a hell of alot of silica/boveda to dry wet weed though i would say. i think tbm was working on drying only with boveda packs but never saw a tutorial or results.

Nice one... i may give it a try, maybe not though.
Will post results if i do.

do, just start small to minimise potential losses, itll be easier to dry small amounts too. i think those boveda packs come in lower humidity versions too, you might start with a high one and work your way down the percentages switching out the packets.. i think thats what that tbm guy was saying he did. just a vague memory start really low % packs might be better im not sure. those packs are reusable, they swell up when they are full and disperse it when the air is dryer again as opposed to silica i think you have to oven it to dry it out, alot more hassle.
you can use two boveda packs together to rehydrate eachother and keep constant(enough) humidity levels.

anyway ramble over.. good luck

i had a buddy who worked in a factory that made beef jerky and the packs that they put into the packaging were called "oxygen eaters", they werent used to absorb moisture as the beef jerky is dehydrated to just the right percentage of moisture. i asked him for some once to mess around with. :D

Suppose you have a little 10g pack of silica gel. It will absorb 4g of water before saturation. That is not going to dry out your crop.

Suppose you harvest 100g wet. That will give you about 30g dry, so you need to lose 70g, which would be 165g of gel. You would need to build a drying box and mostly fill it with gel.

hahahaha

you guys are talking about silica gel yeah? the little balls in the packets?

I've had this thought before. thud, obviously the solution is more silica gel :dance2: and if that doesn't work, just get more.

In all seriousness though, wouldn't these be more efficient in lowering humidity in a microgrow? More as a bandaid solution than anything I guess. I was also thinking a few of these in select places could give mold a hard time. As for drying... Personally, nah. I can't see any advantage over traditional methods either.
