Old Reviews MOST hydro systems all come in black.... WHY??

Ive been looking at some DWC and multisite rdwc systems and am amazed they are all black... i dunno why.

Black absorbs heat and keeping a res cool is not helped by a black res.

Black keeps out light but white plastic can still stop light if thick enuff... we dont want algea do we. Guttering downpipes that are white are mostly light proof so.....

Im trying to get my head around the sheer lack of white systems... Do the makers of black systems all have shares in hailea chillers or what

Thats a piss poor reason if thats why. Look at the black and white we put in our grooms... dont tell me me black and white plastic cant be laminated? Black on inside, white outer. The is a simple problem to solve right?
 
A somewhat technical answer and reason. I suspect it is harder to make many plastics "white," requiring mixing in white pigment powder, almost certainly either titanium dioxide (the good stuff) or low-grade chalk/calcite/lime into the plastic. It's not like there are any light-blocking/opaque white dyes (something soluble in the plastic in its liquid form, before it cools in a mold or polymerizes to harden). Many plastics don't mix well with these white mineral-sourced solid particle/fiber pigments. On the other hand, carbon black and other rather pure carbon-based (e.g., charcoal) pigments are cheap and mix/dissolve well in the organic liquid unhardened plastics. And with all the other additives likely needed to disperse solid white pigments in plastics, what you end up with will likely not be food or pharma grades, and hydroponic companies simply should only use high-grade plastics.

Hahahhahahaha this dude is on his shit, bro what do you know about "Carbon black" hahahahhaha I worked in a Carbon Black plant and a lot of people have no idea how much that stuff is used to dye things black, like plastic and Rubber. Lots of folks don't know that a rubber plant EVERYTHING is white lol

Not sure if you were looking for alternatives or solutions to this question, but for about $25 you can get a good sized roll of this stuff called Reflectix and a few sheets of styrofoam board; I made myself a little insulated box to set my buckets in. They could be bright yellow buckets for all I care at that point lol.

I tried once. I failed. Well, I mean I completed the grow but I was way too ambitious. Should have just started with ONE bucket. Needed more oxygen in the bucket, got pythium. I can honestly say I kicked the shit out of pythium though (it got in a few good licks though.) Learned more about growing weed in that one grow than my entire span of growing though.

I'm considering firing up just one bucket on my next grow. We'll see!

It went well for a good part of the grow, I just let the water get too hot before a change.
