Ya bra!! 40,000 lumens at 424 watts.. How can you go wrong.. Im waiting on mine!~!! I was using 2 300watt actual cfl's.. Decided to go t5!! YA baby!!

8bulb t5ho works great for my little spot...4 6500k and 4 3000k bulbs...very little heat and lots of light..

is is better than a 400w hps/MH -- or just a better option for heat issue?

It's usually for a space issue, they still get warm and need ventilation, probably less so than most other lights. HPS lights usually induce a bit more stretch in plants AND are a lot hotter AND need bigger hoods/reflectors; compared to that option, T5's make a ton of sense in a small space.
