Grow Mediums Multi-Strain Coco Grow--Smithee

cool bean's brother! :smokebuds:i wont be able to start till the end of the month, need a few thing's to start up second tent. i was thinking one month veg then 12/12, but i think i will play it by ear and see how they look at various stage's. still no ph meter.:D:

Rub it in.

Cheers waira. Well, I think I might like your climate better. A possibility we might relocate out your way, but a bit east of you. Of course, several issues will need to be resolved and it will take a little time. Nevertheless, I will eventually go north of here towards the mountains.
--> Well, if you're in the steamy South or roasting desert states, small blame to you! In CA, there's no lack of choice,... you can go from temperate rain forest to one of the hottest places on Earth, from mountains to beaches all in a days drive... maybe you can be neighbors with Stickman further North... he's in a lovely area, from what we've seen. :D:

Your Aunt exposed you to Asian gourmet dinning. Both of those sea creators could send a youngster over to strict vegetarianism
--> Yes, from a long line of chow0hounds do I come! Mom was PA-Dutch background, so we had lots for country style cooking too, thank the gods! Never a veggy-head in our known history here- LOL!.. However, I never liked sea food, period,... scandalous for one of partial Japanese heritage!! Poor Aunty would just shake her head....:Stones slap:
Hmmm, Si as a pH adjuster,... interesting.... I wonder what the water chemistry is behind this; I think most Si formulations are based on potassium silicate (i.e., Pro-Tekt), so maybe it's the K that's acting as the buffer instead of the usual Ca (CO3),... my concern is about putting too much into the plant at such doses; it's undoubtedly beneficial, but I don't think it's be proven to be a truly necessary nutrient... so what happens with a plant that has excess amounts of Si in it's tissues? will it affect smoke quality? might it be actually harmful beyond a certain level? Hmmmmm,... LOL!
Okay, you and Astro' are killin' me with the photo seeds and grow talk! Somewhere, I had started a list of strain I wanted to try... can't find it now dammit, but it's been a few years... I did keep some seeds I found in a 1/4 I got from a delivery service of El Nino, which was interesting and very good strain... I didn't plant them, as there's no time or space for non-fem's with me... Astro', with that line-up it's me and AS that will be movin' into your backyard! hell, we'll even do the cooking for you- LOL! as for veg-times, surely there's all kinds of brains to pick here,... Rebel has a combo grow going now, and his photo's are looking phat and sassy! I believe he topped them, to excellent effect!.... I forgot how long they vegg'ed, maybe 5 weeks? AS, that traffic cone WW totally has my tongue hanging out! What's her perfume like? :brow:

Good point waira. I always refer to good ole Rosenthal's grow book. Si is abundant in soil mixes but absent in soiless/hydro. Right, not found to be of paramount importance, but, appears to be necessary in small amounts. It is not mobile.

I think it is worthwhile to look into it a bit further. What is the plant doing if it is excessive and, more importantly--residual or toxic implications. I will report back to you.

it warm's the cockel's of my heart,:woohoo: to see the wonderful bud's that my wingmate's have to grow and smoke!:smokebuds: wiki smithee is

Great finds Alan! :High 5: It sounds like as an agro-nute', it's pretty innocuous in general,... thinking about the texture and appearance of many grasses, bamboo, sedges , et al,... their higher Si composition makes sense,... monocots overall seem to be this way; LOL!- no surprise that there's no studies on smoking Si- loaded plants!... but one wouldn't want to be the first documented case of 'glass-lung'!! :Stones slap: So, better safe than sorry,.. I agree, ease back on it some, maybe use a bit more mineral rich tap water to mix in with the RO, which is what I'm doing to keep pH okay... That first article should be posted somewhere! Si has more benefits that I thought!...
Oh man! Those girls are filling in the spaces like there's no tomorrow!...check the laterals on those beasties,... those are some of the fullest, most well formed plants I've seen here, mate! And they're not done yet,...whoa! ....The main cola on KVS is a freakin' prize-taker! Beautiful job AS- Go coco-nuts!! :Cushty: You, sir, are the Quiet Riot :wiz: I think they're fine candidates for BOM, say, next month? by that time, they should cause jaws to dislocate upon sight! :D:

Indeed, putting a check on the Si. Glad you were able to digest the scientific material. Those with a science background are invaluable herein. In fact, back in late 2011 we had a prolific academician/scholar. He was a prof. in the UK. Can't remember his name, but, he was sought out often. Reading his material was a challenge. He was just a tad too liberal with his identifiable data and had to retreat to higher ground to avoid detection by his intimates etc.

Right, the mix is another one of Rosenthal's recommendations. Did so with soil. Sounds good, next watering will do a "natural mix."

Lastly, I look forward to Rebel posting some photos of his plant stems. I knew the KVS was getting big. Wait until you see the photo I will post in a few days. Massive trunk/base stem diameter. I have seen many on AFN mostly DWC. The Si has something to do with the stem strength and size.

I think it is easier to take care of a pet--viper, dog etc. than even one canna plant in coco. I am sure Rebel is running into this too. In coco they need much more attention and constant feeding/water. Gets to be a little much--at times. Four big plants and one smaller one = near 10 gallons of water a week. Approx. two gallons every two days. Rebel probably double that or more very soon.

Thanks for comps. Red, Jackal and Astro. And those I missed.

 Girls looking really good Allen!!! To me coco is a pain in the arse especially in a 1.2G airpot. Having to mix nutes for multiple small waterings every day is a hassle. I'm going back to an organic/coco/perlite mix next grow for sure.
