Grow Mediums Multi-Strain Coco Grow--Smithee

Hi Alan! I got one of those 1gal 5bag bag systems too, but I decided to go with dry ice instead,.. simpler, better retention of aromatics...but far less efficient, and easy to over do the shaking and end up with too much plant amterial in the hash; this make fine kief, but lousy hash! **** Aquatics? are you doing a hydro grow this time?...now that I think about it, that sounds familiar,...but I figured you would stay with coco.. You also got a new tent too, right? :brow: Shweeeet!! I would so love to as well, but it's not in the cards now, alas.... You recall my situation...and it's killin' me because I was gifted some wonderful seeds, original JEMS and Stone Dragons! Wow!... so, only time will tell when I can endeavor,...but I'll leap at the least chance!! :smoke:

Will get some photos when I do the gold panning.

Started thinking about all the RO water I used and thought--why not try a simple hybrid hydro deal. Decided to use some seeds I have multiples of, not wanting, to risk issues with single seeds--learning curve. Seeds are germing tonight and will transplant to rock wool starters when the tail begins to emerge. After a week, or less, will plug into bigger rock wool in basket with clay. Want to start seeds in rock wool in the future. Did not want any high risk germ methods on my first hydro.

You are outdoor restricted. How about a tiny green house. I would like to see you grow some of the fabled strains and give us a good smoke report. Must be a way to get the Jems and Stones going.

What size pot is that KVS in?? Just curious.

Howdy 00--Just a two gallon square pot. A layer of clay pellets on the bottom and then filled with coco.

Thanks for dropping by.

...Yeah, I have to do some grinding about hash making and what to do with stuff I still have frozen, spent material, and now a whole new round of fresh trim, etc., coming in! I'm not a fan of edibles, but products like butter /olive oil extracts are a fine way of scavenging the last of the good stuff from spent dry-ice hash making materials,... I probably should still try the water/ice method too, just for educational purposes! :D:
:Stones slap: Duh! Astro's thread is where I saw you mention your hydro' venture,... I assume you're doing the PPV's like usual?
LOL! - Nothing is a bigger pain in the ass to control than a tiny G-house!.... I thought about it many times, for the small fortune in orchids I have, many of which would dearly love the increase in temp's and RH, but like I mentioned, small enclosures are far too prone to wild temp swings, unless loaded with equipment to control it!... besides, who knows how much longer I'll be here?....

Waira, I did the water process two days ago. Interesting. Learning experience. Big lesson use lots of water after big stir period.

Truly, only extracted about 1/3 of based on a conservative est.

The issue was an unmarked bag. Deduced it to the 25 micron. The last bag to be pulled.

25-Big problem. It was dark green water. Thick stuff. It would not drain---at all. Tinkering with it let water out the seams and a small pin hole. After two days, I could scrap what was remaining out of the environmental disaster.
73-Good stuff tan in color. See dark round deal in photo.
125-Yeilded gunk. Probably North Georgia soil from Earl's back forty.
160-Discared - sticks, stems, coins, dice, pins etc.
220-Used for initial mix. Poured into bucket. Poured thru the above bags.

The last bag was bad news. Ideally, adding more water earlier would have helped. In hindsight, I would have run it all thru the 125 and 70 bag several times.

Could be the last bag should be run thru the system several times. Then it might flow thru.

Like I read on an instruction site. You will scrap off what looks like baby poo. Indeed.

Included photo of new set up. Seeds are germing. Lousy rock wool starters looked like a mat of hair after the soaking. The small ones with open sides. Peaked in the slit and noticed some germing. Keeping fingers crossed that they have the force to climp up the rock wool walls. The cubes looked, so bad, I could not bear to photo. Funny.

Yes, the PPV is moving out of the shell. Going to buy some more cubes--just in case. Have plenty of seeds. Eliminated the Sensi Star = 1 seed. Want to give this one personal care after I learn the ropes.

I hear many using bubble/dry stuff for edibles. My batches of olive oil have been mixed. Old style with some bud and spent vap was best. Very mellow. The new mix with bud is tricky. Can be too heady when relaxation is warranted. Have to pay more attention to set and setting.
Thinking a little butter might be fun. I didn't care for the coconut oil. However, I had made an extremely weak batch and had to down multi-spoonful in a seating. Stronger teaspoon batch is better.

Hope you can work something out for fall and winter growing. How is dad. Keeping you on your toes.

The baby poo is drying. The round one is in final dry before pressing. Not much but good for supplementing bud. Just had a few pieces. Perfect to relax.

Hey Alan bro! Just wanted to stop by and say thanks for the BOM nomination bro. It really means a lot to me.

Evening Alan! :D: ..Hope all's well out your way.... *whew* It's been a busy couple days.... my niece was in town from NYC visiting, which of course calls for feasting and hangin' out! Tonight was my Spaghetti feed... -oooff! ..Slaved all day over a hot stove making the time honored sauce! :roflcry: ...at least that's my story! *** Speaking of slaving over things,... this water hash production sounds like quite the venture, especially alone! I gather, all said and done, the efficiency isn't as good as expected? I know dry ice hash is like that; really, with that you're just shaking out the prime stuff, then you must stop or get powdered plant material messing up the hash... flavor is incredible, though!! ... I was looking at the extensive section on water hash in Cervantes' grow bible... sheesh! what a process! It's why I balked at this method...there's a lot of auxillary equipment and facility logistics beyond just the basic gear, from what I can tell... :smoke: -funny stuff, you description of bag contents!
160-Discared - sticks, stems, coins, dice, pins etc.
<--LMAO!! Dice!.... I believe this is close to what I use in dry ice shake n' bake! According to the book, only really big trich's will be captured here, like one may see in superb grade Indica's (135-150 mic's),... I find that trich's on auto's tend to be smaller in size generally speaking, than in most photo's;
125-Yeilded gunk. Probably North Georgia soil from Earl's back forty.
<-- :roflcry: .... yes, that follows, since it's in the 80-110 range where most the good stuff sorts out!...certainly doesn't look very good! Strained peas-poo! The greener poo, which mesh did that come from, vs. the darker brown clumpier stuff? I'm not surprised at the results from 25 mic's... clog-city! what a mess :Stones slap: Having never done it before, I can't say of more water would have helped... you mean to aid in suspending the material better, more evenly? I figured it'd be like a clogged toilet- more water is not the solution! -LOL! I think you're onto something about using the mid-size bags and screening a few time over,... it certainly helps when it's more or less one strain being worked on, thus less variable trich sizes to deal with,... let me know how it turned out! Flavor retention is why I liked dry ice better,....
:D: How are the little ones doing? -hopefully the cubes worked better than they looked! ..dig the new set-up! Ebb and flow type? Sensi Star,... one strain I haven't tried yet! I see it around now and again; last time I actually laid hands on it from a delivery service, it wasn't a very good grow, so I passed,... I also haven't tried the olive oil extract, mainly because I don't really favor ingestion, but maybe it's time I revisited it...in fact, I have to! A friend here sent me a little sample of it, using Rebels method, and is awaiting feedback! So, with all the partial stripped hash leftovers, I'll have to go oil or butter to get the last of it out,...something to share with others, who like it!...
I didn't care for the coconut oil. However, I had made an extremely weak batch and had to down multi-spoonful in a seating. Stronger teaspoon batch is better.
<--- Oh man!! Yuk! *** Dad is doing okay, thanks for asking my friend :smoke: We're just drumming our fingers waiting for the stent implant surgery first week of Nov.,.... *** Hoow are the buds curing up now Alan? :brow: I imagine WW has stabilized some now, Pandora too,.... and the KVS? LOL!!- here I am hounding you, when I'm over due for some early reports myself, and especially official Smoke reports! I'm in hock to Aunty for those, and actually have enough notes on a few to do some now,... *yaaaawn*..I'm wiped, brother... I'll share the news with you on this in the next day or so,... 'Night Alan...:smokeit:

. "..at least that's my story." A rare expression. Good to hear it again. It is a very special one for me.

You sounded busy the last few days. Your dad will feel better after he gets the stent upgrade.

The bubble process was, I hate to admit it, kinda fun. Just that last bag got me. However, will take a while to fill freezer again. The collected pollen (hello Europe) was light colored. After drying and kneading and drying it turns black.
I have enjoyed a touch in with the bud. Pleasant relaxation. BTW there is a home made method of whipping up small hash batches. Think UHF gave me a briefing a few weeks ago. You might enjoy using your culinary skills.

All the new ones are up and running at four days or so. Lavender had a problem cracking the shell. Looks tiny and possibly stunted. The photos appear to be hardy and look good. Incredibly the temperatures are high. It is the time of year when ac is off and house is naturally warm. Don't think it is going to rise should slowly drop. Water temp easing towards the upper limit. It to should drop some, however, I am chilling it from time to time with a low tech method (frozen water bottle).

Yes, the WW has a great scent--fruit and flowers. Others mossy forest and the good old ripe fruit aroma. Friend will sample all. Looking forward to his impressions. He dove in, immediately, and tried the Pandora (I haven't) with a state of the art hand held vaporizer (Pax Vaporizer). Said his back muscles loosened up and felt relaxed.

Take care and rest up. In a few weeks, I will start a new journal. Will have to keep an eye on your plans too.

Alan I'm sorry I neglected your thread in the last month or so... Sure have missed a ton! The hash sounds bomb! So do the rest! I'll be awaiting the new thread! Congrats again on BOM!!! :smokebuds:

Thanks astro. I am just waiting for your big photo bloom.

You know I thought about smithiwiki. Decided to bastardize the Smith into an Italian surname.

Give me that recipe. Unless, you want to take a little ride. My Irish mom made a good sauce when she was young. In her later years she was obsessed with Frank Sinatra's mothers basic recipe which she could recite by memory.
