New Grower My first grow attempt HBSS

Hello all,

New here, been thinking about growing for the last few years and decided to just pull the trigger 2 weeks ago. So sorry don't have any picks or anything started yet. Been researching and actually never heard of autos until I started researching 2 weeks ago. I joined here because it just seems like a chill place with friendly helpful people. So I started ordering what I need and going over notes and I'm stuck in one area.
I have so many different opinions on the light placement to start.
I plan on germinating in paper towels and placing in final container in tent right after. My question is: How far should my lights be at that early stage and how long do I leave them there. Info as follows..
4ft x 4ft x 7ft tent. 2x Viparspectra reflector 600 watt led lights. There are 5 plants from mephistogenetics. Deep blue and beary white in case they may be light sensitive. I think that's all the info needed.
Sorry for the noob question but hate to ruin the run on day one..lol Tks in advance

Hello bud and welcome to the afn . great pick on those mephistos they are some fire gear. as for the lights id hang them at about 2 foot / 24 inches and see how they do . if you notice them start to shrivel or looked stressed raise the light up some more ..

You've found the right site with the right people to help. I'm in the middle of my first grow. People here are really good about passing on their knowledge.

Just remember that these are plants that want to grow if you'll let them. Most strains are kinda hard to kill. Believe me, I gave it my best shot and my gals are still alive.

Try not to over analyze every little thing and you'll be fine. Document what you're doing here and somebody will chime in with a guiding question or bit of advice. It really is an awesome community.

Welcome aboard! Light placement is often best decided by the plants. I usually let them tell me.. I start off at about 36 inches.. If they start to stretch, I lower it down untill the stretch stops/slows. Genetics also play apart. Some plants are more light tollerant/sensitive than others. Start between 24-36 inches and go from there!

All the led lights I used in the past and now with cobs, I started about 30" high. I see how stretch goes and move down from there settling somewhere between 18"-24".

I believe I cooked my seeds. Started them in paper towel placed between 2 plates and set on top of my bro's lights. Exactly the way he has done for years. After 24 hours all 8 cracked and 4 had 1/8 inch taps. Left all 8 in next day none had grown and his cooling fan broke which left the temp of the area at 99 under the lights, not sure how hot above them were.. Took out the 4 and planted to see if they would start. Left the other 4 in since the fan was replaced. 2 days later still no growth. Planted them in soil on a prayer. Don't think they will grow. Going to just let them sit until I get my Rapid Rooter plugs in the mail. If no growth I guess I start on the next seeds.
