This is my first indoor grow. I did try and grow last summer outdoors but it didn't go too well at all ...

Insects decimated my grow. Whitefly, caterpillars and who knows what else was having a feast on my plants. So I decided to go grow indoors and set up a tent, lights, the whole nine yards. Already I've encountered problems growing indoors. Firstly I was under-feeding my plants. Gallons/liters its all a bit confusing to me, especially when a product says use so many milliliters per gallon and well math has NEVER been my strong suit ...

I was feeding my two plants 4 liters every second day. But instead of feeding them 8ml of nutrients all up (2ml per liter) I was feeding them 2ml per 4 liters. Like I said, math ...
I posted up a pic of my plants and a member here said they look a bit hungry. No kidding! lol at least it made me look at what I was feeding them and realize my mistake (Thank you @STILLSMOKIN)

So I've been feeding my plants 8ml per 4 liters and they've improved heaps. Basically the bottom leaves have stopped turning yellow and the brown spots have stopped developing on the leaves. It made me do some searching and I went out and bought a bunch of stuff from the local hydro store. I got some Go Green Professors Nutrients. Prevents and repairs deficiencies. Also giving 8ml of that per 4 liters. Also got a Truncheon Pen and a PH Meter and have been trying to learn how to use them.

This is what I've found so far. When I make up my mix of nutrients the Truncheon Pen flashes between 900ppm and 1000ppm. I have been making the PH 6.0 each mix. Today I did another feed and I took the runoff and tested it with the PH Meter and the Truncheon Pen. PH runoff is 5.8 and Truncheon Pen is flashing between 700ppm and 800ppm. Does this mean my coco is 5.8ph (which is too low?) and the 700-800ppm means my plants ate roughly 200ppms of nutrients if they went down from 900-1000ppms?

Here's the plants today, which I think they are looking a bit better. They've definitely gone darker green in the leaves which is a good sign?

Looking good to me. Im not coco pro but yea might be a little low on the ph. I feed to the MAX it can take . If you dont have a little tip burn on the leaf then your not at max feed , Ill try to get yu a few eyes on this maybe @pop22

Really hard to gauge from run off the amount of nutes its eating but actual feed should never exceed 600 in veg. As the plant takes up certain elements ph will swing. Thats a good thing though.

So when you feed as long as nutes arent too much your coco hits ph of what you put in. After it has ate what it wanted ph will natural rise or drop.

But with your ph being 5.8 id be a tad worried with nute build up. Next feed drop ppm to 400 actual feed with a 6.5 ph if possible without adding ph up. Thats only actual food though calmag or ph down and tap ppm doesnt count in my world lol.
Check runoff and report back after if you want.

Drop ppm to 400 even though my plants are not in veg but are budding?

don't worry about ml's per gallon etc. Use your ppm meter to gauge your solution. I measure with teaspoon or tablespoon. Use one and add small amounts and measure ppm. You'll soon figure out exactly how much of your brand nutrient to use. Up your PH to 6.2 and keep it there. Measuring runoff PH is a waste of time unless you have a PH related problems. 5.8 is within the range for coco but coco has fewer problems if you ph your solution to 6.2-6.4. Flowering plants make the medium more acidic by exchanging H+ ions for N etc. so running your solution a bit higher as suggested can prevent your medium from having a low ph.

I'd keep you ppms of nutrient to around 700-800 ppms. your plants look just shy of N toxic now, notice the tips just starting to claw. your ok for now but lighten up a bit on the nutes.

I will lower the nutes. Thanks heaps for the help.

I was saying drop ppm just this one time just to kind of mini flush and bring ph up a bit. Just my 2 cents. 1000 just seemed a touch high for that size.

Yep I understand. I will drop the ppms and raise the ph like you said. Awesome advice and I really appreciate the help, really appreciate it :thanks:
I'm at day 40 and I don't know how big the buds are supposed to be by this stage. My main concern is I've spent all this money setting up, plus running costs and I'm going to end up with puny little buds and a bunch of popcorn. I cruise around this site and see pictures of what you guys can do and then look at my plants and wonder will they fatten up and have big buds? Its like waiting for Christmas ... :jointman:

A couple of better pics taken today.
